Serani gets HOT with Skip to My Luu

serani_ding_dong_skip_to_my_luu.jpgSerani's career continues on an upward path as his dancefloor smash "Skip to My Luu," featuring Ding Dong and Razz n Biggy, has been added to daytime rotation on America's #1 radio station HOT 97 in New York.

Its a phenomenal feat for Serani as its his third single to get added to mainstream daytime radio in the US in the last 2 years, following on from the Billboard-charting No Games and She Loves Me.

"it really is all about hard work," said Serani. "I've been putting in the groundwork over the last two years, constantly being out there on the road. We've been working Skip for a while at radio and now its paying off. HOT 97 always shows Reggae and Dancehall a lot of love and kudos to them for introducing Dancehall records to the mainstream."

Skip to My Luu is a fun track based off the dance of the same name that was #1 in Jamaica earlier this year and still a staple at dances across the globe. It crossed into American clubs over the last couple of months and was then picked up by US radio. Skip to My Luu was produced by top tier production trio DASECA.

Serani debuts Searching video

Serani debuted the video for his latest single Searching on taste-making website this week, garnering an astonishing 70,000 views on the first day.

The Ramon Cruz-directed clip is a studio/club-based video that is packed with energy and fun from start to finish. Searching, produced by DASECA, is a song that cleverly flips the latest dance craze - the Follow Through - into a slang in the song.

The Follow Through dance was invented by Mundo, of the famous Ravers Clavers dance clique, and has caught on like wildfire in Dancehalls and clubs across continents. With the release of the Searching video Serani hopes it will help impact the song and the dance together.

Serani, Webstar & Jadakiss Gettin Tipsy In The Club

Serani_dancehall_jamaica.jpgSerani has been busy pushing his profile on the international scene since the start of this year, following up his tremendous 09 achievements.

A European tour, a UK tour and extensive US dates in colleges, clubs and concert venues across the US have already been crammed into 2010, with perhaps Serani's most high-profile move being his participation in Universal/SRC recording artist Webstar's video for "Tipsy in the Club."

Serani sings the infectious hook on the track, which is Webstar's first single from his album and also features legendary rapper Jadakiss; the trio shot the video in a plush Manhattan nightclub recently.

Iconic Hip Hop media house The Source was given exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the video shoot, which can be viewed by clicking the link below.

No Games Sold 1100 units - released without Universal Republic

serani-no-games.jpg"It's tough out there but we are remaining positive and focused on developing Serani as an artist and a brand," said Julian Jones-Griffith, Serani's manager, in the aftermath of shifting a little over 1100 units first week of his debut album, No Games. "We are lucky that we have venture partners who believe in Serani, will stay the course and roll out a third single. They share our vision of artist development and breaking him in new markets. When you think, how far Serani has come in terms of profile and mainstream airplay in under 2 years as an artist it's a phenomenal achievement and hes out-paced many acts who have been on the scene for years. We're closing in on 100,000 single downloads overall since we rolled out, which is huge, and I'm confident we will get where we want to go."

In a climate where album sales have been culled dramatically in the space of a few short years, everybody has felt the brunt of the decline. Sean Paul came off the back of 4 million sold and did 28k first week. Sony rolled out 225,000 units first week for Sean Kingston on the strength of a huge Billboard hit and he shifted less than 15,000.

Behind the Beats: Serani - MTV

Source mtv

serani-fox-good-day-new-york.jpgSerani may be best known for his breakout hit "No Games," but the emerging Jamaican artist first made a name for himself crafting songs for some of his homeland's biggest stars.

"I'm a musician from birth, I played the keys from birth," Serani said. "As time went on, when I became a teenager I was listening to Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Capleton and Sizzla. I would listen to the beats and thought, 'Why are they on some of these? They could do better.' And I knew I had the talent to do it."

He got his start working as a musician, contributing to Wayne Marshall songs. Eventually he formed Daseca Productions with two partners, and the trio were able to power hits by some of the same artists Serani listened to coming up. Their big break came when they scored a couple of knockout hits, producing Tony Matterhorn's "Dutty Wine" and Sean Paul's "We Be Burning."

" 'We Be Burning' was the first real big move," Serani said.

Serani's Top 14 Singles - No Games Album Tracklist

SERANI-album.jpgAs anticipation builds for the October 27 release of Serani's US debut album, titled "No Games" after his crossover hit of the same name, the tracklist has now been released.

The 14 track set contains many completely new songs along with with new versions of Mama Still Hungry, When its Cold and Romance Me, alongside the title track and current hit "She Loves Me" rounding out the impressive album.

"We put a great emphasis on the quality of the production and sound on the album," said Serani. "As a musician and producer myself I'm very pleased with the sonic quality of the album and I am sure my fans will be just as pleased. You always hear people complaining that Jamaican artists release albums that are basically compilations of songs that are already out there so we wanted to do a lot of new material. Even the tracks that are known have been re-worked and upgraded! Most of the album is for my ladies, but there is something on there for everyone."

SERANI-album.jpgNew York, NY - "Pop-Dancehall" artist Serani is gearing up for the release of his first U.S. full-length album titled No Games. The album comes on the wave of the huge success of his international hit single "No Games." The record has enjoyed incredible momentum with multi-formats radio play that includes Urban AC, Urban, Rhythmic and Top 40 and over 30,000 spins! The video for "No Games" is on rotation on BET, BET J, MTV Jams, MTV U, MTV2, VH1 "Island Soul" and Music Choice "Hit List" on demand, where it picked with 30,000 views a week during May/July 2009.

A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Serani started his career by touring as a keyboard player for several Jamaican artists (Wayne Marshall, Bounty Killer and more) and by joining school friends David and Craig Harrisingh to form Daseca, one of the most powerful production teams in Dancehall today. Serani and Daseca have been responsible for several dancehall hits, including Tony Matterhorn's "Dutty Whine," Sean Paul's "We Be Burnin'" and Mavado's "Real McKoy." Serani took his first chance at singing when he added a hook to Mavado's single "Dying" which he also produced. The song became a hit and Serani decided to start making his own tracks. His debut single "Doh" in 2007 turned into an immediate street anthem in Jamaica; the record also broke him into US radio stations, such as NY's Hot 97. The follow up "No Games" catapulted him into the mainstream with Top 40 airplay and video play on major national video channels. Serani is currently featured on Queen Latifah's new album "Persona" on the Neptune's produced track "If He Wanna" and on DJ Webstar's single "Tipsy."

Serani Breaks Records!!

seraninogmaesdancehallartistesjamaica.jpgAlliance star Serani's bonafide hit "No Games" has landed at the #1 spot on America's reggae iTunes Chart for the first time, knocking Bob Marley's timeless classic "Three Little Birds" off the top spot. Having been selling thousands of downloads and ringtones for months, No Games has been flirting with the #1 spot for sometime, but now replaces Bob Marley's anthem, that sells an average of 5,500 a week in downloads on iTunes.

"No Games is actually still gaining in spins across the country," said Serani's manager. "This record just won't go away. Its still getting added to playlists in many states across the country every week so it continues to spread."

Serani, Vegas and Soulja Boy rock DJ Prostyle's Birthday bash

The UCF Arena was almost packed to capacity on Monday night for the big event celebrating Heavyhitter DJ Prostyle's Birthday. It was a great night for Dancehall as the young and very mixed crowd was extremely receptive to both Serani and Vegas, the other artist repping Jamaica on the night.

"The hard work and promotion we are doing for ourselves and for the music is paying off," said a pleased Serani. "There were females of many different nations and colours singing along to my songs which is very encouraging."

Aside from headliner Soulja Boy, Serani and Vegas were the night's top performers in terms of crowd reaction. In a star-studded line-up that featured big names from Rap, R'n'B and Regageton, both artist's sets were greeted with screams and claps from start to finish, underlining the growing popularity for Dancehall music in the US.

Serani goes to Charlotte, South Carolina and Virginia this weekend for 3 shows before heading to the Uk next week for the Brighter Days Tour alongside Mavado and Bugle. Serani for Metro PCS Tour - collaboration with Chamillionaire & MIMs

serani_mims_Chamillionaire_tour_photos_pcs.jpgThe Metro PCS 5 Borough Takeover Tour stops at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on Tuesday the 10th of March. Dancehall superstar Serani is headlining the show alongside rapper Common and singing sensation Jazmine Sullivan, who is currently heating up radio and charts with Lions Tigers & Bears, following the huge success she had with Bust Your Windows and her Reggae-tinged breakout single Need U Bad.

"It's an honour to be on a bill with such great artists," says Serani, recently signed to Universal Republic Records. "It gives me a chance to introduce myself to their fans as well, so I'll be giving them my all. The shows have been promoting really hard on mainstream radio in New York, so I'm getting a lot of mileage that way also."

The Metro PCS Tour stops at the Prudential Centre in Newark, New Jersey, on March 25th, where Serani will be joined by Alliance colleague Mavado, as well as Akon, Busta Rhymes and Estelle.

Serani inks major deal with Universal Records

serani_univeral_records_nogames.jpgAlliance musical sensation Serani has bucked the trend in these troubled times for the music industry by landing himself a deal on the biggest major record label in the world - Universal Records.

After weeks of negotiation, a deal described by his management as "unbelievable," was finally thrashed out and inked at the end of this week. According to Julian Jones-Griffith, Serani's manager, he had been in talks with the heads of most of the major labels over the last 2 months and after much deliberation, decided to go with Universal Republic.

"The bosses over there - the Lipman brothers, shared our vision," said Jones-Griffith. "They see Serani as more than an urban act and intend to market him in that way. We did the deal in conjunction with our new partners Phase One Communications, who have been responsible for the success of No Games in the US. It really is a fantastic deal and is one Universal said they have never done before. But in this new climate, if a record label wants something they have to adapt and do things they might never have done before."

Serani's No Games gets new mix by Lil Wayne's engineer

serani_lil_wayne_mix_engineer_jamaica_no_games.jpgMaking a hit song is about more than writing a great song with great melodies over a great beat. As a hit-making producer and musician (Sean Paul’s We Be Burning, Matterhorn’s Dutty Whine, Beenie’s Back it Up and much more) Serani understands the importance of a top quality mix. Once a song is recorded in the studio it is handed over to a mix engineer, also referred to as "mixer", who creates what's called the "final mix" or "mixdown" of a song. The mixer takes all the elements that have been recorded and mixes them together with the aim of achieving a good balance of the instruments and vocal volumes, by tweaking the relative volume and frequency content of all the sounds.

“As a producer originally I had always admired the sound of T Pain’s music and always said I want him to mix my songs so I asked my manager to try and make it happen,” explained Serani.

“Our A&R at Universal Records knew Fabian Marasciullo, T Pain’s engineer, very well and reached out to him,” said manager Julian Jones-Griffith. “His immediate response was that he loved the song - he’d heard it many times on the radio and jumped at the opportunity. Turned out Fabian is also Lil Wayne’s personal Mixer too. The sonic difference between the original mix, which is still great, and Fabian’s version is astronomical.

Dancehall artiste Serani playing no games

serani_no_games_jamaican_artiste.jpgMusical maestro Serani's transformation from producer to artist continues to fast track as his hit single ‘No Games’ continues to gain popularity in the US. With its spin count rapidly climbing, ‘No Games’ is now available for download on iTunes and even appears on the iTunes main page this week. It is quickly racking up impressive download numbers and is showing signs of being the crossover hit Dancehall badly needs.

"We did a couple of deals on the song and it seems to be paying off quickly," said manager Julian Jones-Griffith. "We've got some great people working the record and there generally seems to be a feeling that it can go far. It’s all about promotion and getting it added to mainstream radio stations across the US at this stage. We also need the support from Dancehall and Reggae lovers to buy the product. The music industry has taken some well-publicised blows over the years and Reggae and Dancehall have been hit harder than most. Major labels and strong independents out there need to see and believe that our genre can move units as well as just being popular in the clubs and on HOT 97."

"Dem nuh want fi si wi rise above dem" - Serani & The Seeker

Jamaica's hottest new Dancehall star Serani, who has his “No Games” banger in heavy daytime rotation on New York’s HOT 97, is continuing to expand his popularity in many markets. He recently hooked up with UK Dancehall artist Dolamite AKA The Seeker, of the famed Suncycle Crew from Harlseden - one of the toughest neighbourhoods in London, on a track for Dolamite’s upcoming album.

The Suncycle-produced track - "Disease Heart" - is a melodic shot at haters, a subject Serani has explored on other tracks making it a natural collaboration for him, over an easy-paced soundbed.

Dolamite has been in Jamaica for the past 2 weeks and he and Serani shot a video for the track on Wednesday (November 5, 2008) with acclaimed director Rick Elgood at the helm.

“Disease Heart” has just been released to radio and has already been getting spins locally and abroad.
