Dancehall Artist Quick Cook Denies Feud with Chi Ching Ching

Are Chi Ching Ching and Quick Cook feuding? That is the question asked by party goers who attended the 7th annual CMG BBQ/Dream Launch this past Monday night in Queens, NY. The event was a huge success and as with the previous year excitement and surprises marked the night. The vibes were nice and drinks where flowing, patrons mingled with the likes of Ricky Blaze, Chi Ching Ching, Wacky and Quick Cook just to name a few when the DJ dropped a crowd favorite with the song "Party Shot" by billboard chart topper Popcaan and featuring rising dancehall artist Quick Cook.

Seeing this as his cue to grab the mic, Quick Cook made his way to the stage and started singing along to the delight of his fans, an impromptu performance took place that led into more of Quick Cook songs. The DJ perhaps getting carried away called on to dancer turned artist Chi Ching Ching who took over with some lyrics of his own and seemed to be throwing words. Quick Cook took it in stride as he was there for the sole purpose of enjoying himself as special guest to Richard Harding CEO of Calico Music Group. Letting the vibes flow he made his way to the bar for some more champagne, but edged on by his fans, went to the DJ "Sharky" from Superforce, dropped some money on the table and performed some more to screaming cheers.

When asked on a brewing feud between himself and Chi Ching Ching, Quick Cook stated "As of right now I'm in NYC just trying to promote myself and push my career. Last night I was booked to be at a Memorial BBQ in QUEENS and that where I was, from my understanding me and ching ching chink have no beef is just to how what happen mek di fanz dem pree like there is tension between us. What happen was as party shot a play mi tell the selecta fi pull up that and forward then my song "NO ID MAN A VIP" start play as my song was playing and selecta that was with ching ching chink call him up and and he went up on and said " dem nuh hot, dem feel like hot sell a shop warn in I'm the chain saw man".

South Beach comes to Jamaica

South_beach_Sundays.jpgSundays in Jamaica are traditionally about spending time with family, relaxing and prepping for the dreadful start of the week, which everyone dislikes so much. It's about gathering around the table for Sunday dinner and recapping the prior week's proceedings, but JMR Entertainment is here to change all of that for the summer and bring South Beach to you live at the South Beach Café.

They will be hosting the event South Beach Sundays as of June 17th and every other Sunday there on out until July 29th. The Sunday series day event will start with the Kick-Off, and then move on with Beer Madness, Throwback and end with the Grand Finale. Jaymar Howell and Michael Riley, the masterminds behind the event series will bring you nothing short of the South Beach lifestyle. They will bring to you the music, the atmosphere, the experience and of course Miami's very own Dj Eccentrix.

“We wanted to change the idea of a regular Sunday event and bring to our fellow Jamaican’s a huge difference in what they normally experience,” Michael said.

Lil Wayne & Drake We Are NOT Paying A $400,000 Judgment!

lil_wayne_drake_law_suit_400.jpgLil Wayne and Drake say there is NO WAY IN HELL they're gonna fork over $400,000 to a company that sued them for allegedly bailing on a club appearance ... because they claim they were never told about the gig.

The rappers have joined together to fight a default judgment entered against them. The judge ordered the duo to pay $432,337.50 to Imperial Entertainment Group. The company sued, alleging L.W. and Drake promised to perform at a 2011 event but were no shows.

The rappers now claim in legal docs ... they were never told about the appearance, never signed ANY contracts and were never even served with papers to show up in court.

Drake and Lil Wayne allege that IEG used a third party to book them -- Melanzh Enterprises -- which they claim had no authority to book them.

The two want the court to cancel the $400k plus judgment ... STAT.

Xyclone creating a storm within Dancehall

By Marc Parc Writer

Xyclone_artiste_dancehall_redsquare.jpgIt's often hard for upcoming artistes within any genre to breeze through the industry given the many hurdles that must be faced. But for emerging Dancehall star, Xyclone, he's stormed through the genre's circles with impactful results.

Born Roje R. Robinson, Xyclone had an affinity for Dancehall music from a young age; a love which seemed genetically inclined given that his father, Peter Blacks hails as the iconic disc jockey of the Reggae Vibrations sound system in Philadelphia, PA.
After years of trying to perfect his craft, Xyclone soon caught his big break after meeting up with veteran Dancehall megastar, Spragga Benz who had been instrumental in the rise of fellow Dancehall superstar, Assassin. Xyclone recalls his meeting with Spragga Benz in 2007; a meeting which helped build their chemistry off-stage before ever working together on it.

"We were watching a movie, The Black Wall Street to be exact. I never forgot that night, it was December 26th, Sting night and the artist did a eat some vegetables and beans. And wi did a reason about the plot of the movie’ nothing music, just a reason like we knew each other for years," he said.

From there, it was all systems go for Xyclone's career as he then signed to Spragga Benz's highly regarded Red Square stable, which features label mates Briggy Benz, Tajji, Bad Gal Bambi and Kemmikal. As a member of Red Square Tropical Heat Productions (RSQTHP), Xyclone has brought along his writing, producing and engineering abilities to the table, immediately showing his multi-faceted traits.

Jay-Z weighs in on Obama's gay marriage stance

obama_jay_z_gay_rights.jpgRapper Jay-Z is singing President Obama's praises for endorsing same-sex marriage, insisting "it's the right thing to do."

"I've always thought it as something that was still holding the country back," Jay-Z told CNN on Monday, commenting on gay couples not being able to tie the knot.

"What people do in their own homes is their business and you can choose to love whoever you love,” he said. “That's their business. It's no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination plain and simple."

The singer's statements come as several, prominent black pastors have spoken out against the President's historic announcement to back gay marriage. Obama held a conference call with several of the church leaders last week to explain his decision.

Statement From Busy Signal - We not going down - God alone controls my destiny

Busy_Signal_Case_US_Jamaica.jpgIn this a time of reflection, I would like to thank my fans who have supported me through this difficult situation and who will continue to support me. Your messages and prayers via social networks and via members of my team are what have brought light to the darkness of my cell.

I have never admitted that I was involved in any drug deal or drug arrangement. I waived my rights to an extradition trial here in Jamaica, so that I can return to the US to face a charge of absconding bail ONLY. This incident took place ten (10) years ago before I even considered becoming an artiste.

As you can understand, this is a difficult time for me, however during my time away, my fans will not be left with a void - there are several unreleased tracks that will definitely keep you "busy" until my return. I recently released my album Reggae Music Again, which debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Reggae charts. On my recent tour of Amsterdam and Paris, we shot elements for the video to the title track of the album. It features cameos from Marcia Griffiths, Queen Ifrica and Anthony B and that will be released in a couple of weeks.

For my fans overseas, my management team has been in dialogue with promoters who have all shown their support for me and my situation and for that I thank them.

Bounty Killer Says Beenie Man Sold Out His Beliefs For Money

By Marc Parc Writer

Bounty_Killer_Beenie_Man_Sold_Out.jpgInternationally acclaimed Dancehall superstar, Bounty Killer won't let his long-time rival, Beenie Man live down his decision to issue a recent video statement in which he tried to bury the hatchet with gay and lesbian critics who have long bashed his lyrical content.

Beenie Man responded to recent comments from Bounty Killer criticizing his perceived apology while implying that he sold out his beliefs by making this move. The self-professed King of the Dancehall steadfastly denied apologizing to the homosexual community, insisting that his purpose for the video statement was to ask gay, lesbian critics to stop holding lyrics from his younger years against him. Additionally, Beenie Man took shots at the Alliance leader, claiming that Bounty Killer should have been talking about a performance in Amsterdam in which he claims fans left before the self-proclaimed War Lord took the stage.
However, Bounty Killer refuses to back down; taking to Twitter to refute claims by Beenie Man that Jamaican artistes will see an increase in overseas shows, in part, because of his video statement.

According to Bounty Killer, he would not have done the same thing if put in such a position and that Dancehall music has helped boost Jamaica's stance on homosexuality; intimating that artistes should not back down from said stance regardless of the possible financial implications.

"Me can't ever put a dollar over Jamaica and its culture. If it wasn't for dancehall and its culture I don't know where or who I'd be today. Mi nuh sorry fi nothing that I said or sang; I am sorry to know it offended anybody but that's how I see it. My views and beliefs, all I can say is that homosexuals fi stop try ban we shows and dancehall must leave dem alone to God still and let peace reign," he said.

The Real Reason Chris Brown Dissed Rihanna Revealed!

He Wants His Cake And Eat It Too!

By Asha Ladwa

Chris_Brown_dog_artiste_hip_hop_r%26b.jpgAn unnamed insider has revealed how Chris Brown was happy to have a love triangle with both ex-flame and singer Rihanna, and current girlfriend Karrueche Tran, something which RiRi refused to let happen.

Despite the musical pair collaborating earlier last month on remixes of each others’ songs, thing’s got bitter between the two after Brown’s alleged diss to Rihanna on 'Mercy.' Said the insider:
"Chris tweeted it wasn’t about her, but she knew it was a stab in the back from him. He still has so many control issues."

It was thought that the 'Turn Up The Music' singer had begged Rihanna to take him back, but at the same time he refused to call it off with Karrueche.

Rihanna finally told him that she was going to start seeing other people if he didn’t commit, which didn’t go down to well with the 23-year-old.
"Chris was not willing to end his relationship with Karrueche, even though he made Rihanna believe that he was still madly in love with her," reports Hollywood Life from an unnamed source.

"Chris is the one who initially reached out to Rihanna begging her for forgiveness. He was incredibly sweet to Rihanna in the beginning, telling her how much he missed her, how Karrueche could not even compare to her, how he wanted to make things work."
The source goes on to add that Rihanna would have gone back to Chris, but he wanted to have his cake and eat it too! Once Rihanna made it clear that she wouldn’t stand to be his side chick, Chris dissed her.
We're not surprised!

Reggae Music A Get A Fight Cuz We Are Disorganized, Disunified, & Badmind

By Olimatta Taal
Freelance Writer

Olimatta_Taal_photo.jpgWhen you compare reggae music to other genres of music, you will notice that reggae artiste make the least amount of money on the pay scale.

The industry is full of disunity from every angle with the two heads of the industry always at each other's necks. Whether it's for media exposure or not, it makes everyone in the industry look unprofessional and ignorant. When we fight each other, it's easier for them to fight us, ban us, and demean the music.

Artistes are forgetting that they are where they are in their careers because of the teams of people pushing their careers at every level. The management team can consist of a manager, road manager, publicists, booking agent, security, engineers, merchandise director, etc.

The team depends on how big the artists is and what is needed. Now days, the artistes want to do everything for themselves. They want to book their own shows, be their own manager, and have a whole bunch of yes people around them trying to conduct business who know nothing about the business.

The artiste are more interested in the business of dubplates and not real business like handling a professional website, publishing, licensing agreements, distribution, and bookings etc. Our artistes have become so consumed by their own egos and the dogma that surrounds them every day, that we are forgetting that this is a business.

Like Jimmy Cliff said, “Reggae Music is 99% business and 1% art.” How many veteran artistes have died and died poor? All the years of recording music, don’t amount to anything if the artiste and their teams are not handling the business side of things.

Statement from Vybz Kartel About Disbanding the Portmore Empire

By Adidja Palmer

Vybz_kartel_Portmore_empire_disbanded.jpgAdidjahiem Records would like to announce that the outfit known as the Portmore Empire is being disbanded, with the following statement from Adidja 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer:

Dancehall fans worldwide, it with great regret that I, Adidja Palmer have decided to disband the Portmore Empire. These artistes have been under the Adidjahiem leadership for years, where they have honed their craft and made their mark, and as such, are well on their way to becoming major forces in Dancehall. They have reached a level where they are more capable to take on their careers by themselves, and it would be unfair to them, based on the limited resources of Adidjahiem Records, and current legal woes of the Adidjahiem C.E.O. and team members.

I wish them the best and I am confident that they will live up to my expectations. In the future, Adidjahiem will continue to bring out new acts and groom them for stardom.

Thank You.

Former Portmore Empire members Vawnessa 'Gaza Slim' Saddler and Leroy 'Tommy Lee' Russell are moving on with a newly formed label named PG13.

"Right now, a PG13 di ting deh," states Gaza Slim.

"Look out for PG13," says Tommy Lee. "It soon work in."

“I never apologized. Jamaican people need to be more literate about life. Five years ago, we stop sing certain songs, and start focus more on dancehall to make it what it is today. I said that they (the gays) should leave us alone, don’t have us up for what we said when were young, that happened 20 years ago, nobody is the same person they were 20 years ago,” he said

“Everybody grow up, but I guess ah August mi born, so mi have to bear the burden fi everybody else. Ah me plant the oak tree that dem use crucify Jesus Christ, and my cow dem kill and make the leather that dem use and beat Him for 13 hours, and ah my hardware dem tek the hammer that dem use and nail up him hand dem, so mi ah go bear the burden dem fi everyone then, ok then,” he said, exasperatedly.

“Look here, I sell music, I do this to send all my youths to school and my grand-daughter because I am a grandfather now. I have to provide for my family. I tell these people that we, as dancehall artistes, don’t hate people, because of what they want to say or do. We don't practise hate, we don't want to kill gay people, we love all members of the human race, regardless of their religion, creed, race or sexual orientation," he said.

Will Smith Slaps A Male Reporter For Kissing Him On The Lips

Will Smith just slapped a Ukrainian reporter across the face at the Moscow premiere of "Men in Black 3" -- and it was all caught on tape.

The Ukrainian reporter tries to kiss Will on the lips on the red carpet and the actor angrily pushes him away and then backhands him across the face.

You can clearly see that Will is incredibly pissed that the guy showed overt affection toward him.

After Will slaps the guy, Will says, "He's lucky I didn't sucker punch him."

We're told the dude who kissed Will is a television reporter who often kisses celebrities -- it's his schtick.

For the record, Will just came out in support of gay marriage.

A source on scene tells TMZ, the reporter's mouth brushed up against Will's and that's why the actor reacted so violently. Despite the incident, Will stayed positive ... and happily continued to sign autographs for fans and do red carpet interviews.

Golden Child Music Group Committed To Jamaica's National Child's Month

"It is my pleasure… all the time to be a part of the advancement of any student’s life, particularly those in Jamaica my home. I hope that winner of Jamaica’s Autism and Disabilities Ambassadors Competition 2012, will get easier access to the resources that will enhance her academic output, through the sponsorship input the Golden Child Music Group chose to offer this year”.

“Fourteen year old Sicourney Jackson is just the type of Jamaican young woman and student we at the Golden Child Music Group want to encourage and develop, as a part of aiding the progress of our great nation Jamaica," these were the sentiments of Jason Williams a.k.a Don Yute head of the Golden Child Music Group based in the United Sates.
He added that while May is the month designated in Jamaica for the celebration of our youth, it must be not be relegated to a mere month, but must see year round activities by all who are stewards of Jamaica’s young people - where we can encourage and motivate Jamaican children to be better.

Mr. Williams adds that all year round, just as how there was the Autism and Disabilities Ambassadors Competition in April of this year, opportunities must be created by those who can, to let youth excel outside of the classroom, build their resumes, abilities and self-confidence.

By Marc Parc Writer

mavado_movie_shottas_2.jpgInternationally acclaimed Dancehall singjay David Brooks, more popularly known as Mavado has fought back vigorously after reports emerged in the last 24 hours regarding his visa status as well as his label situation.

Several reports emerged yesterday that the Alliance artiste had been dropped from a concert scheduled to take place later this month at the Guvernment Entertainment Complex (Kool Haus) in Toronto, Canada after failing to secure a work permit to enter the country.

Additionally, popular entertainment publication, L3 Magazine issued a statement which in part revealed that Mavado was being dropped from the Cash Money Records (YMCMB) umbrella just two weeks after joining the group as a result of his label, We The Best Music Group joining forces with the New Orleans based hip-hop establishment.

On Thursday, Mavado responded sternly to the claims, reportedly filing several defamation, libel and loss of earnings suits claiming millions of dollars of damages against L3 Magazine editor-in-chief, Natasha Von Castle and co-defendant Ron Nelson in Toronto Civil Court. In the suits, Mavado alleges that both Van Castle and Nelson disseminated lies via Blackberry Broadcast and blog posts issued by both persons.
Furthermore, We The Best Music Group CEO, DJ Khaled as well as Cash Money Records co-founders, Ronald 'Slim Williams and Brian 'Birdman' Williams are drawing up similar suits.
All this news comes just over a week after Mavado was found guilty in an assault case in Montego Bay, St. James. The prominent singjay plans to appeal said verdict.

No Feud Between Tifa And Lady Saw

By Marc Parc Writer

Two of Dancehall's leading ladies have rubbished speculation of a developing feud between each other following a recent interview that sparked some controversy.
The Queen of Dancehall, Lady Saw was the subject of an interview on TVJ's Entertainment Report which aired last Friday in which she was asked about which current female artiste could be next in line to take over the Dancehall scene. When asked if prominent divas, Tifa and Spice were the artistes best fit to succeed her, Lady Saw was claimed to have said, 'Never in my league, my shoes can never be filled.'

However, the iconic deejay categorically denied saying that in response to the question of her successor; insisting that she was displeased with the way Entertainment Report cut her interview; especially given her strong friendship with Spice.

However, speculation about a beef with Tifa intensified after rumors spread that Tifa had been impregnated by Lady Saw's longtime boyfriend, John John. Tifa had reportedly sent a Blackberry Broadcast Message prior to the interview in which she denied taking away Lady Saw's boyfriend while claiming that these rumors were part of an ongoing publicity stunt which she believed the Queen of Dancehall.

Rock & Come Enn' Injects The Soul With Feel-Good Reggae Hits

Sophia Squire sings the title track, Rock and Come Eeen, a solid gem of a song which is carved in reggae oak. A long time journeywoman in the world of reggae, Squire has blossomed in the past two years to emerge as one of the fiercest female voices in reggae today. She proves this in no uncertain terms by delivering arguably the best song on the Rock and Come Een project, which was produced by broadcaster Dalton Leith for his Dalton Leith Music label.

Sophia Squire was mountainous and extremely pregnant when she voiced this single, only four days before she gave birth. This hit song is a testament to the power of the female spirit as she voices a song full of sexual connotations and references to foreplay and the art of lovemaking that will make the average male blush in sheer delight. In her trademark husky, sexually charged voice, Sophia Squire croons: 'You have the right touch/to make me giggle and such /stop, rewind, mek we take it from the top'. Oh mama!

Busy Signal warns the youths to 'Stop Show Off' quoting popular lines in the bible as he sends a stern warning to the youths who walk the path of violence and end up as statistics in the gangland wars that dominate Jamaica's ghetto areas. It is a warning for all youths with dying on the brain that: "if you exalt yourself you will be abased/best if yu humble yourself and not be erased". The best line Busy deejays is the one that reminds the young shottas that ‘ah no yu one weh know people weh know people".Just stop show off.

Sean Paul Defends Caribbean Counterparts Nicki Minaj and Rihanna's Image

Lea Brown

Many things can be (and have been) said when speaking about Rihanna and Nicki Minaj. Everything from their chart-topping hits, to their fashion risks, they are some of the most talked about artists today. Yet another thing that unifies them is there highly sexual image. Go to any Rihanna concert and you may be present during a display of foreplay and masturbation on stage. Attend a Nicki Minaj concert and be entertained as Minaj walks around, dildo in hand and in place. Not to mention the impromptu (or not) lap dance for a surprised fan.

The vamped images of the singers have spurred some talk about the responsibility of entertainers to be role models. In an interview with British Vogue in October 2011, Rihanna explains “See, people…they want me to be a role model just because of the life I lead. The things I say in my songs, they expect it of me, and [being a role model] became more of my job than I wanted it to be. But no, I just want to make music. That’s it.”

Minaj, on the other hand, sees herself as a role model. The ‘Moment for Life’ singer told MTV News, “If there’s one thing I want people to take away from it, it’s just that little girls can aspire to be anything, and that’s all I want people to see.” The most recent display of pre-pubescent admiration for Minaj is Sophia and Rosie, the two little girls from England who famously and energetically sang ‘Super Bass’ on the Ellen Show; proof of the fact that the influence of Rihanna and Minaj trickles down to young children.

Multiple artists with songs on one Riddim (instrumental) are a trademark of Dancehall music. Call it 'supreme wisdom' but watching all this from a distance in his adopted home of Toronto, Canada, was Supreme, the golden-voiced Trelawny, Jamaica-born deejay. Arguably one of the hottest new Dancehall artists to come out in a while, Supreme approached his rise in the ranks in a completely new and ground-breaking way.

When the talented 24 year old migrated to Canada in 2009 he knew that he was drastically cutting his chances of 'blowing' up in Jamaica as a Dancehall artist. However, being the confident natural star that he is, Supreme embraced that challenge. What Supreme did next is what sets him apart today from the rest of this field. Knowing that he would not easily be considered to voice on new Riddims by the top music producers in Jamaica, Supreme sought out his own path in Canada.
