by Chris Lewton

lil_wayne_billboard_hits.jpgLil Wayne is now the first artist to hit number 1 with six songs on Billboard’s Mainstream R& B Hip-Hop radio airplay chart in just one year. On October 14th, he took his sixth victory with the fourth single from his latest album, “The Carter IV.” The song, titled “She Will” and featuring Drake, rose from third place on the chart to first. “The Carter IV” was listed among the top 200 albums in August, selling nearly a million copies in just its first week.

The previous record for number 1 chart list singles was held by Usher. Lil Wayne surpassed Usher’s record of four hits when his “How To Love” took a top spot, following “6 Foot 7 Foot” featuring Cory Gunz, “Look At Me Now,” “Motivation,” and “I’m On One.” The last three songs are actually titles that Wayne himself has been featured on. There has been talk of whether or not it can actually be considered fair that Wayne has received credit for singles reaching the number 1 spot when he was only a featured guest, but for now, the position of record-breaker remains his.
