Vybz Kartel's booking agent, Calvin "Moonie" Haye cops murder charge

By Marc Parc Writer

vybz_kartel_jail_charge_prison_jamaica.jpgIt seems that the world around controversial Dancehall artiste, Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer continues to crumble as his booking agent also faces a murder charge.
Calvin "Moonie" Haye, designer and booking agent for Vybz Kartel, was jointly charged with murder in relation to the killing of Clive "Lizard" Williams in Havendale, St. Andrew this past August. Haye was formally charged with murder following questioning by law enforcement in the presence of his attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson.

Haye was summoned by police earlier this week for questioning relating to Kartel's case; granting an interview for TVJ's Entertainment Report the night before he turned himself in to the Constant Spring Police. In the interview, Haye claimed that police barged into his home weeks earlier; startling him and his family before using excess force against him. According to Haye, he's innocent of any wrong doing and will fight the charges brought against him, in part because of his affiliation to Kartel.

Meanwhile, Vybz Kartel's protégé and Portmore Empire singjay, Shawn Storm, will jointly be charged for murder with the "Dancehall Hero," Haye and Kiro "Ray" Jones in the Williams case, according to reports Shawn Storm reported to the Constant Spring Police station on Tuesday for the second time in just over a week; facing questioning from law enforcement in the murder case.

Rihanna Named Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire

Isabel Sheen

The “We Found Love” singer knows that she's got it and often flaunts her striking beauty and sex appeal during her music videos and live performances. The singer admitted, however, that she feels anything less than sexy after performing on stage.

“At the end of a concert, I don’t feel like I’ve been this sexy thing,” Rihanna said.

Whether it’s the glistening sweat rolling off of her body from the heat of the stage lights or the utter exhaustion that the singer most likely feels after nearly two hours of non-stop movement and vocalizing, Rihanna may not feel the part but her beauty and well formed features are still in tact. The singer later went on to admit that most of her provocative appearance isn’t intention, except for when she is singing songs that relate to the subject.

Earning the title puts her in the same class as Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johansson, both of whom have previously earned the title.

Rihanna is currently trotting across the globe as part of her world tour. She most recently wrapped up filming the video for her single, “We Found Love,” which is under massive gunfire from various women’s groups due to its imagery of sex and drugs. One rape group has feared that the video objectifies the singer herself, who has been the victim of domestic violence at the hands of former boyfriend and R & B star Chris Brown.

By Marc Parc Writer

The My Life singer turned himself in to the Constant Spring Police on Tuesday, one week following his release from a Portmore jail after being named a person of interest. Shawn Storm's attorney, Michael Deans, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court on Friday, hopeful that a bail application made on the "Gaza" artiste’s behalf would be successful.

Jagra GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza: the show must go on

The year 2011 has been one in which recession has been the main profiler in the videolight and the production of mammoth dancehall shows has declined significantly. However, the promoters of the event which has what is arguably the longest title - Jagra GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza - have declared that recession or no recession, the show must go on.

Production is therefore in high gear for this eagerly anticipated calendar event, held annually at Independence Park, Black River, St Elizabeth. Now celebrating its 12th staging, the show will continue with the theme that heralded its mega successful 10th anniversary, 'Caring and Sharing Through Music'.

"After much deliberation, we decided that it was appropriate to use the same theme as last year. We want to get this message home to the users and end users of the music just how important it is that we care and share through music, Happenings in the industry this year have provided a lot of food for thought and it’s about time we put value to our lyrics and how we say the things we say," executive producer, George 'GT' Taylor, declared.
The promoter is still savouring the success of last year's show, which pundits agree was the best show for the season, and which Taylor says was the best Christmas Extravaganza in the event's history. He had words of commendation for the sponsors, in particular title sponsor Jagra, the artistes, the band, the production team and, of course, the patrons.

Before They Were Stars with Sizzla

By Marc Parc Writer

Internationally-acclaimed Dancehall/Reggae singjay, Sizzla Kalonji has proved himself in two separate decades to be one of the most versatile and influential artistes of his time. One of conscious Dancehall music's most intuitive architects, Sizzla's lived up to the values and structure, prior towards becoming an elite artiste, that helped shape his musical image.

Born Miguel Orlando Collins on April 17, 1976, Sizzla was embedded within his family's devour Rastafarian culture and principles. A member of the Bobo Ashanti sect, Sizzla was adamant to promote music that would not only showcase positivity, but denounce the slack and deviant behaviors displayed on Dancehall's stage during its explosion in the 80s and early 90s.

While attending Dunoon High School, the August Town born singjay studied mechanical engineering prior to serving a musical apprenticeship with the Caveman Hi-Fi sound system. He recorded his first single for the Zagalou label in 1995 before teaming up with Bobby "Digital" Dixon's Digital B label for a series of singles.

Over 25 million views for Demarco's "Love My Life"

By Marc Parc Writer

Dancehall singjay and Starkutt Records artiste, Demarco is swimming in unchartered waters, thanks to YouTube, as a result of his internationally acclaimed single, Love My Life.
demarco_i_love_my_life_reggae_artiste_dancehall.jpgThe uplifting Dancehall single from Demarco has achieved over 25 million views to date on the Google-based video sharing website to date; one of the highest figures ever recorded by a Dancehall artiste. Love My Life, which was released just last October, attained over 14.5 million views via one YouTube channel (VapBassMusic) while the accompanying video for the track accumulated another 10.5 million views on the popular Gazaprince11 YouTube Channel.

These statistics put Demarco in a very special category as only a few, current Dancehall/Reggae acts have earned more YouTube views for any of their singles or videos. Perhaps the most notable artiste to achieve such YouTube success since the website's inception in 2006 is Grammy-winning singer, Shaggy, whose video for Angel featuring Rayvon has earned over 35 million views to date.

Other prominent artistes who've eclipsed the 20 million views plateau include fellow Grammy winners, Damian "Junior Gong" Marley with Welcome To Jamrock and Sean Paul with Temperature to name a few. Compared to Demarco, Dancehall's most in-demand superstar, Vybz Kartel, has only managed to tally half as many views as his remix of Major Lazer's hit Pon De Floor (12.5 million views).

Such a staggering number elevates Demarco to higher ground and could be a game changer within the Dancehall industry in an era when the quality and quantity of HD Dancehall & Reggae videos is at an all-time high. Love My Life is now more than just a single; it could be the ticket towards bigger things and more accolades for Demarco going forward.

Detectives from Criminal Investigation Branch in Constant Spring, St. Andrew issued a murder charge against Kartel and Kiro Jones aka "Ray Jones," on Monday evening. G Whizz was not denied of a British Visa was recently informed by G Whizz's manager that a certain tour promoter has been spreading propaganda claiming that the artiste was denied of a visa by the British Embassy…G Whizz's manager wishes to inform the public that there’s no truth to the propaganda.

Below is a statement from G Whizz's manager

G whizz was denied a British visa and was unable to take up an offer for a European tour. As G Whizz manager, I would like to take this opportunity to inform G Whizz's fans and promoters alike that that information is NOT true and should be treated as such as rubbish. G Whizz has no issues with any embassy and can travel anywhere around the world once all relevant details regarding tours are clarified.

We have no contractual arrangement to do a tour in Europe however, we were contacted by Mr. Kevin Blake, who is acting as a third party to do a tour but we didn't accept the tour because of Mr. Blake irresponsible behavior. Part of the reason for our refusal not to accept a tour is because Mr. Blake refuses to accompany G Whizz and his road manager on the tour that he arranged and the appropriate time wasn't given for any arrangement to be made for an application at the embassy therefore, we had to stay away from a deal that would see us visiting a foreign nation without an appropriate plan.

The propose countries and dates are as followed: period between the 19th of October to 9th of November visiting countries like London (Oct 21-22), Birmingham (Oct. 28), Amsterdam (Nov 2), Stockholm Sweden (Nov 4), Rude 7 Mannerheim (Nov 5), Volksgarten Vienna (Nov 8).

I hope you guys understand our position and hope that a different arrangement can be made for us to work together. G whizz apologizes for any inconvenience cause and hope that the false information issue didn't cause a harmful impression on the promoters.

I-Octane Release Hot New Single - Gearing up for Barbados debut

i-octane_profile_photo.jpgWhen it comes on to hitting the right conscious musical notes, singjay I-Octane seems to have found the right formula.

That is a proven fact with numbers such as Lose A Friend, My Life and the ganja loving Puff It. But there is no easing up as the Digicel Brand Ambassador is once more at it, this time with Burn Dem Bridge.

Ever since it hit the airwaves it has been receiving a steady buzz, it has even caught on already in parts of the Caribbean as evidenced by the eager response he got from his recent performance in St Kitts.

Listening to Burn Dem Bridge it is easy to figure out why it has been embraced by music listeners. Recorded to a catchy beat I-Octane chants "Tek up inna tings dem neva ask the Lord fah, it's not a laughing matter, ungratefulness causes disaster… dem burn dem bridge.."

The song comes with the singjay trademark philosophy on life and his stance on living it.
Burn Dem Bridge was produced by Big Ship's Stephen Di Genius McGregor and sees singer and producer working together for the first time.

Rihanna's Relationship History: In Her Own Words

By Jocelyn Vena (@jocelyn1212)

rihanna_chris_brown_relationship_love.jpgMany fans who watched Rihanna's "We Found Love" video were quick to tie the clip to the pop star's own experiences, describing the video as an "intense" visual experience.

The video, directed by Melina Matsoukas ("Hard," "S&M," "Rude Boy," "Rockstar 101"), tells the story of two young people driven not only by their dangerous passion for one another, but an equally dangerous passion for drugs. While their experiments with drugs certainly plays a big part in the story, their abusive relationship also helps weave the tale of the couple, played by Rihanna and British model/boxer Dudley O'Shaughnessy.

Rihanna has always been open about her own struggles in an abusive relationship, notably her relationship with Chris Brown, which culminated in a 2009 assault. In the two-plus years since the headline-making experience, Rihanna has moved the narrative toward her musical endeavors, which includes her forthcoming album, Talk That Talk, but the video also reminds fans of the singer's past, one she's never shied away from discussing.

'Nothing but the love of God,' says Prodigal about edgy love song

prodigal_son_christian_love_me_like_jamaica.jpgGospel artiste Prodigal Son confesses that he has the love of God boiling up and coursing through every cell in his body. And as a way of expressing that uniquely intimate relationship with his Maker, the artiste has penned a song like no other.

Entitled Love Me Like This, the single on his very own Radikal Prodigal label, is as confounding as it is enticing. Amid all debate about the edginess of the song, one thing is crystal clear, Love Me Like This is a love song. However, the question that arises is: Love for whom? Is Prodigal Son expressing his love for a God who loves him unconditionally - the agape type of love? Or is he pouring out his passionate love for a woman - the eros?

"This is definitely all about my love for God. This is my testimony," Prodigal Son says without even a hint of a smile.
As a matter of fact, with all that is being said about the single and its inappropriateness for church worship, the artiste refuses to go into defense mode. Prodigal Son instead takes time to quietly emphasise the fact that "all love is from God and of God" and that church music is always evolving.

Ninja Man drops assault case against fellow inmate

By M. Jodee Writer

ninja-man-prison-bars.jpgEmbattled Veteran Dancehall artiste, Desmond "Ninja Man" Ballentine has dropped an assault case relating to an incident in which the deejay was hit in the head by a stone.

The "Bad Man Can't Make Love," deejay, who's awaiting the start of his murder trial, was knocked unconscious by a stone, concealed in a sock, by a fellow inmate. Ninja Man immediately pressed charges following the August 3rd incident at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Kingston.

The accused, Kevin "Nashy" Maitland, was acquitted of the charge in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Thursday after Ninja Man insisted that he no longer wished to pursue the matter. The prominent artiste intimated that he wasn't sure who threw the stone after him; placing the blame on Maitland given that he was the closest man within the vicinity of the incident.

Maitland responded by suggesting that the alleged incident was prompted by a war started by Ninja Man and his prison block. Additionally, Maitland stated that Ninja Man threw a water bottle at one of the TVs; igniting the war within the prison.

Ninja Man was charged with murder in relation to a March 2009 incident in which he, his song and two other men were involved in the shooting death of Richard Johnson. The long-awaited murder trial was postponed again in June; rescheduled for November 28th.

Before They Were Stars with Elephant Man

By Marc Parc Writer

elephant_man_before_they_were_stars_outaroad.jpgInternationally acclaimed superstar, Elephant Man has been one of the models for consistency within the Jamaican music industry for over a decade. Prior to being known as Dancehall's "Energy God," this prominent artiste had long been embedded within the genre's framework; taken under the tutelage of a duo of Jamaican musical legends.

Elephant Man was born Oneil Bryan on September 11th, 1974; earning the nickname "Dumbo Elephant" as a child for his larger than usual ears. Despite concerns his mother expressed regarding his early pursuit of becoming a musician, Bryan followed his dream. While attending high school, Bryan was known for using his desks to bang out Riddims and tunes, to the enjoyment of his classmates and friends.

During Bryan's high school years, two internationally renowned deejays, Bounty Killer and Shabba Ranks were residents of his Seaview Gardens neighbourhood while the legendary King Jammy's studio was just block from his house. On occasions, Bryan travelled to King Jammy's in an attempt showcase his talents; hoping producers and fellow artistes would take notice. His attempts proved successful as Bounty Killer took notice of him while singing at the studio's gates; suggesting that Bryan join a group he was forming featuring Seaview-based teens.

The group featuring Bryan was originally named Seaview Family, but was later changed to the Scare Dem Crew as a result of Bounty Killer's hit single, "Big Guns Scare Dem." While recording with the group, Bryan was also mentored by Grammy Winning deejay, Shabba Ranks who dubbed him with the stage moniker, "Elephant Man." With his new stage name, Elephant Man, alongside Harry Toddler, Nitty Kutchie and Boom Dandimite proved a formidable group while with Scare Dem Crew. The group's presence was strong during the mid-90s and in 1999, Scare Dem Crew released their critically acclaimed album, Scared From The Crypt.

Shawn Storm out of jail

By M Jodee Writer

shawm_storm_freed.jpgPortmore Empire artiste, Shawn Campbell, more popularly known as Shawn Storm is once again a free man following a four day stay behind bars.

The "My Life" singjay turned himself into police on Monday after being named a person of interest by Portmore police. Though some speculated that Shawn Storm's arrest was directly linked to the murder case against his long-time mentor, Vybz Kartel, no reasoning was offered by police regarding the nature of his arrest. He was transferred from a St. Catherine to the Constant Spring Police station earlier in the week.

Shawn Storm was freed after his lawyer, Michael Deans, filed a habeas corpus application in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday morning. According to Deans, he was on his way to court to address the matter when a senior superintendent informed him that the St. Andrew North did not have any interest in Shawn Storm. As a result, he was reportedly processed and released Friday afternoon. The Gaza singjay has yet to comment on the matter.

Shawn Storm's arrest came a week after Vybz Kartel was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting death of Barrington "Bossie" Burton, a businessman/promoter of a St. Catherine address. Kartel is expected to return to court October 26th to answer those charges.

The previous record for number 1 chart list singles was held by Usher. Lil Wayne surpassed Usher’s record of four hits when his “How To Love” took a top spot, following “6 Foot 7 Foot” featuring Cory Gunz, “Look At Me Now,” “Motivation,” and “I’m On One.” The last three songs are actually titles that Wayne himself has been featured on. There has been talk of whether or not it can actually be considered fair that Wayne has received credit for singles reaching the number 1 spot when he was only a featured guest, but for now, the position of record-breaker remains his.

Spice Spills It All About Her 'Boyfriend' Dick

It’s not Tom, or Harry who has caught dancehall artiste, Spice’s eye - it’s Dick.

The humorous, pun-filled song, My Boyfriend, Dick, released only a few days ago on producer, Seanizzle’s Sunrise Riddim, has already garnered raised eye-brows, laughs and more importantly increasing airplay.

My Boyfriend, Dick tells of Spice’s affection for her fictitious boyfriend of that name, and she says, “The idea came to me when I heard the beat. It just popped into my head and I built a song around it. It’s definitely a fun song and I know there are some persons who will misread the title, but it’s just a fun play on words. I try to make my songs fun, with vivid imagery and sometimes with lots of puns that the fans will love.”

Spice, whose correct name is Grace Hamilton and a past student of the St. Catherine High School, says drama and poetry were among her favourites in high school, “So that has definitely impacted what I write and sing about and how I put my music together. My dramatic background definitely comes out in my performances and stage show fashion. It’s that kind of love for the arts that led me to the Edna Manley College, but I opted to forego that and went straight into music as a career instead.”

In addition to My Boyfriend, Dick, Spice’s single, Hot Patty Wine, produced by her management team, Movers and Shakers Ltd., has been slowly making its way through parts of Africa. “That song has both an Afrocentric feel to it plus aspects of dancehall, and those are both things which an African fan-base love. Sizzla nears return to music scene, looks to release new videos

sizzla_kolonji_hospital.jpgInternationally acclaimed Reggae artiste, Sizzla Kalonji, is close to a full recovery following a serious motor cycle accident last month. As a result, the singer is ready to return to the music scene.

Sizzla has been resting comfortably at home since the bike crash in Runaway Bay, St. Ann. The crash left the "Solid as a Rock" singer with multiple broken bones as well as a ruptured liver. He spent 10 days in a Kingston-based hospital, receiving treatment for his injuries before his release on September 4th.

In a statement issued by Sizzla on Thursday, he expressed his gratitude towards his loved ones, fans and the doctors who made his hospital stay worthwhile. Now the Judgement Yard singjay feels as if he’s back to full strength. "I am feeling very strong, healthy, and I am coming along well. Thanks to the Most High Jah Rastafari," Sizzla intimated.

However, Sizzla claimed that he has been advertised for a variety of upcoming stage shows that he has yet to agree to. The singer explained that he has not authorized any winter tours or performances overseas since 2009, his most recent tour. Additionally, he has warned his fans not to be fooled by the rogue promoters, potentially scheming to scam money from them for these advertised shows.

Rapper Rick Ross reportedly hospitalized 2nd time

rick_ross_hospitalize_sick_heart_seizure.jpg(AP) BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - Rapper Rick Ross was reportedly hospitalized in Alabama after suffering two medical scares in six hours that required planes to be diverted.

The first scare came Friday afternoon as Ross was on a Delta Air Lines flight from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to Memphis, Tenn., where Ross was scheduled to appear at a University of Memphis basketball event that night. The plane returned to Florida after Ross suffered an unspecified medical problem. He was treated at a Fort Lauderdale hospital, and he even tweeted afterward: "Memphis here I come."

But after Ross hopped a Memphis-bound private jet, it made an unscheduled landing in Birmingham, Ala., because the 34-year-old singer experienced another medical problem, Memphis basketball coach Josh Pastner told a crowd at the Friday night event where Ross was to appear.

"On his way to Memphis," Pastner said, "he had to make another emergency landing, in Birmingham. He got really sick again, and they had to rush him to the emergency room."

WMC-TV in Memphis reported that Ross suffered a second medical seizure and had been hospitalized. The news station said the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital would not comment on his condition.

Before They Were Stars with Tami Chynn

By Marc Parc Writer

tami_chynn_before_were_stars_outaroad_feature.jpgProminent Dancehall/Reggae artiste, Tami Chynn has already accomplished many accolades in her musical career and still is in her prime as an artiste. Before the world became familiar with this sexy songstress, Tami's roots within the Dancehall/Reggae framework had already been embedded.

Tami Chynn was born Tammar Anika Chin on June 14th 1983 in St. Andrew. Chynn was bred and raised in a multicultural background; to a Jamaican mother with British ancestry and a Chinese father with Cherokee ancestry. During her younger years whilst in St. Andrew, Chynn attended St. Peter & Paul Prep School before heading to Campion College.

However, it was at the tender age of 14 when Chynn decided to pursue her dream of becoming a musician by migrating to London, England. Encouraged by her parents, who were also musicians, Chynn spent three years in London; studying the performing arts and perfecting her abilities as a singer.

At the age of 17, Chynn returned to Jamaica looking to put what she learnt overseas to practice. She was recruited by legendary Dancehall/Reggae act, Shaggy as a dancer during his "Caught Red Handed" world tour in 2001. That experience gave Chynn confidence to pursue her music career and in 2003, under the moniker, Tami Chynn, she collaborated with fellow upcoming artiste, Kid Kurupt for the sultry single, "Rock U." The song and accompanying video showcased Tami's scintillating vocals and sex appeal to the masses; gaining acclaim locally.

Beenie Man will not be performing at 'Beenie Man Live' in Miami

beenie-man.jpgReacting to a poster circulating on Facebook that suggests that Beenie Man will be performing live at a birthday party event at a club called Euro in Miami, Florida, Beenie Man's management team is asking promoters to desist from advertising events suggesting that the artiste will be performing when they know that he has not been granted a work permit.

"The person who is hosting the birthday party is a personal friend of mine and he invited Beenie Man to attend the event, but not to perform. We don't have a work permit, there is no contract, no fees have been paid over. Beenie Man would have made an appearance at the event just to party with the fans and not to perform, so I was upset when I went to a club over the weekend and somebody handed me a flyer advertising 'Beenie Man Live' this Friday at Club Euro in Miami. Beenie Man will not be performing at this event," an upset-sounding 'Blue', Beenie Man's manager said in a release.

Since losing his US work permit, Beenie Man has concentrated his energies on the local market scoring major hits such as 'Jancro' on the Overproof riddim, as well as the number one hits 'Inna the Go Go Club' and 'Nuh Talk Too Long'.

Nicki Minaj's Suicidal Past: "Maybe I Should Just Take My Life?"

nicky_minaj_suicidal_wig_hair.jpgNicki Minaj is known for being one of the strongest female voices in the hip-hop world - even Rolling Stone put her on their list of the top rappers in the game right now - but it sure wasn't easy.

The 28-year-old, who is not married to Drake, revealed in the November issue of Cosmopolitan that her struggles to make it in the music industry fell so heavily on her that she felt completely worthless and even contemplated suicide.

"I kept having doors slammed in my face," Minaj told the mag. "I felt like nothing was working. I had moved out on my own, and here I was thinking I'd have to go home."

But going home wasn't the worst of her thoughts.

"It was just one dead end after another. At one point, I was, like, 'What would happen if I just didn't wake up?' That's how I felt. Like, 'Maybe I should just take my life?'"

Luckily, Minaj (and all her rapping alter egos) didn't let the constant rejection discourage her from trying to do what she loves. And in the end, our little star got linked up with some of the industry's greatest artists, created a Barbz fan army on Twitter and was asked to open for Britney Spears' latest tour, so we'd say it all worked out pretty well.

Like the true go-getter Nicki is, she has a lot more plans for her future.

"I will have put out five albums and will have an Oscar and Grammys," she says. "And I will be getting married and, a couple of years after that, will have a bun in the oven. My whole life is about being Nicki Minaj now. It's a never-ending saga."

By Marc Parc Writer

vybzkartel_lucia_trinidad.jpgPolarizing Dancehall superstar, Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer may soon have more serious legal battles to fight in the near future.

The Portmore Empire leader was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm in relation to the shooting death of a businessman/promoter in Gregory Park, St. Catherine. He has been held in custody since September 29th when he was initially arrested for possession of marijuana at a small, New Kingston based hotel. On Wednesday, he was ordered to re-appear at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court on Friday to answer his murder charges while his lawyers are expected to file a renewed bail application.

Now it's being speculated that Kartel could face additional murder charges in the very near future. According to reports, the self-professed "Worl’ Boss" is also being investigated for his potential role in a double murder that occurred in Portmore, St. Catherine earlier this year.

Last week it was reported that Kartel was linked to the shooting death of a male dancer in Waterford, St. Catherine.

Kartel spoke out on Friday regarding his arrest from behind bars; claiming that the police are using him as a target before singing out lyrics questioning why the police decided to arrest him.

2012 is going to be a great year for Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z.

beyonce_pregnant_jay_z_belly_baby_boy_girl_twin.jpgThe couple will welcome their first child in February, the 30-year-old singer announced on Australia's Sunday Night.

"Being pregnant already has changed my life. My husband and I have been together for 10 years, all of my twenties," she said. "I just feel like it's time and I'm very grateful that God has blessed me with the biggest gift any human can have."

Married since 2008, Knowles said she and Jay-Z (real name: Shawn Carter) made a conscious decision to hold off on starting a family.

"I think because I've accomplished a lot of things for myself and I really know who I am, I didn't rush into anything," she explained. "If there's any time, right now is the time, and I'm so happy."

Before she became pregnant, Knowles took a break from the spotlight to re-examine her life. "It was a bit overwhelming," she said. "I was a bit numb and kind of lost."

"I never even realized I needed a year off. I never realized I don't know how to take a year off," she added. "I've been managed by my father for a long time, and it's been a real change being separated from him. It was scary, but it empowered me."

Controversial Dancehall superstar, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer has spoken publicly for the first time since being charged for murder on Monday night.

The internationally acclaimed deejay was initially arrested last week Thursday at a small hotel in New Kingston; charged with possession of ganja. The following day, Kartel was taken to a series of premises he's believed to own or frequent before being held in custody at a Kingston based jail last weekend. Vybz Kartel's Teacha's Pet Reality TV Show Is Back On CVM TV

By M Jodee Writer

The popular Jamaican reality series, Teacha's Pet will continue airing on local TV despite the show's centre piece, Vybz Kartel facing murder charges.

Following the withdrawal of sponsorship from Teacha's Pet by telecommunications outlet, LIME on Tuesday, speculation was rampant that CVM TV would no longer broadcast Kartel's reality show. A representative from CVM TV told IRIE FM that same day that Teacha's Pet would no longer be shown on the network as a result of Kartel's legal woes.
However, CVM TV's Programming Director, Ransford Ricketts confirmed on Friday that the network would continue to air episodes of Teacha's Pet for the foreseeable future. Ricketts explained in a radio interview that CVM TV was assessing the situation closely but never considered suspending or pulling the reality series from its airwaves. Following their assessment, along with strong demand from Kartel's fan base and fans of Teacha's Pet, Ricketts intimated that episodes of the reality show would continue to air as contractually obligated.

I-Octane gave smashing performances in St Kitts, Costa Rica

On to new challenges

ioctane_jamaica.jpgTwo separate venues, huge crowds, but there was, no doubting the high-energy performance that singjay I-Octane dished out in St Kitts and Costa Rica.

His first of two performances came in Costa Rica where he performed on More Life Fest 2K11 on September 30 alongside fellow Jamaican Tanya Stephens.

He exploded on stage to loud cheers and great enthusiasm from his fans there as he dished out one conscious number after another.

A few days later, October 2nd, to be exact he was in St Kitts at Beamount Park Race Track performing on So Long To Summer Bash.
Following the excitement of the day's horse racing, I-Octane performing on tracks delivered a sterling hour-long set to over 4,000 patrons.

So impressive was he that the promoters didn't waste any time in confirming him one year early for the annual event. The organizers weren't the only ones who were in for a surprise on the event as the artiste himself was a bit taken off guard.

Da'ville scores with When I'm With You

daville_reggae_singer_jamaica_songs.jpgWith his husky voice delivering as only he can, singer Daville has scored yet another number one, this time it's with his latest single When I'm With You. Listening to him you can almost feel yourself being enveloped in his ultra smooth voice as the soothing strains of the sweet reggae music adds that perfect touch.

Daville definitely hit all the right notes in When I’m With You and it’s not surprising that the song has made its way to the number one spot on Jamaica Music Chart and is now in the number 9 position on Hype TV Top 20 chart;

But then number ones are nothing new to the singer as he has found himself in that position many times. Among his top scoring numbers were In Heaven, Can’t Get Over You and On My Mind.

That Daville has a passion for singing is no secret as he often jokes that he was born singing.

Beenie Man and Bounty Killer Buck-up At Money Mondayz

The Dancehall Veterans Claim Feud Shouldn't Be Taken Seriously

By M Jodee Writer

Is the recently re-ignited lyrical feud between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer a publicity stunt? Following a recent stage show featuring the two artistes, fans and observers have been left to wonder if that’s the case.

The two internationally acclaimed Dancehall entertainers shared the stage at Bounty Killer's Money Mondays event at Club Impulse in New Kingston on Monday night. This apparent show of unity follows recent exchanges of diss songs between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. Despite making peace earlier this year, Beenie and Bounty's long-standing rivalry was once again at the fore following disparaging remarks the "War Lord" made about Beenie's divorce from fellow deejay, D'Angel. Beenie had claimed that D'Angel's decision to skip his birthday party and attend Bounty Killer's own was the final straw in his marriage to D'Angel while Bounty claimed that Angel was using Beenie for personal gain.

However, during the Money Mondays event, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man were together on stage; insisting that the lyrical war is friendly and that the two are cool with each other. Furthermore, the two revered deejays advised fans not to take the feud seriously despite the voracity displayed in the lyrics of the singles exchanged between the two.

Portmore Empire artistes stick by Kartel in spite of legal woes

By Marc Parc Writer

popcaan_gaza_artiste_ravin.jpgVybz Kartel's prized protégés from the Portmore Empire have insisted that despite their leader being charged for murder, they're still sticking by their leader.

On Monday, Kartel was charged with murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of a firearm regarding the shooting death of 27 year old businessman/promoter, Barrington "Bossie" Burton in Gregory Park, St. Catherine. To make matters worse, Kartel's reality show, Teacha's Pet lost its biggest sponsor as telecommunications outlet, LIME announced on Tuesday that they would no longer broadcast uncut episodes of the series. Additionally, producers of Teacha's Pet are discussing whether or not future episodes of Teacha’s Pet will be broadcast as a result of Kartel’s legal issues.

Despite the controversy surrounding the "Dancehall Hero", members of the Portmore Empire are showing loyalty towards their mentor. Empire artiste, Gaza Slim asked for law enforcement to release Kartel; insisting that she's praying for her mentor and that he will prevail despite his current troubles.
Meanwhile, another prized Kartel protégé, Andre "Popcaan" Sutherland said that he was stunned by the news that "Di Teacha" had been charged with murder, even though he did admit that he doesn't know how true the allegations are given that he doesn't fully know him personally. Furthermore, Popcaan said that he was hurt by the news and didn't expect such a thing to happen to his long-time mentor.

Future of Teacha's Pet uncertain following Kartel's murder charge

lime_tv_logo.jpgThe future of Vybz Kartel's reality series, Teacha's Pet is unclear after telecommunications outlet, LIME officially withdrew their sponsorship from the program.

LIME issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that they would no longer broadcast episodes of Teacha's Pet via their mobile television outlet, LIME TV. This is a direct result of murder charges issued against the show's centerpiece, Vybz Kartel on Monday night. LIME TV had been broadcasting "Too Hot for TV" clips of Teacha's Pet, via their Peppa Channel, each Friday at 11pm; an hour after its original broadcast on CVM TV.

Since the announcement, fans and Dancehall observers alike are wondering whether or not Teacha's Pet will be taken off the air given the loss of their biggest sponsor. Before They Were Stars with Aidonia

By Marc Parc Writer

Prior to being recognized for possessing one of the most unique voices in Dancehall music, Sheldon Aitana Lawrence, more popularly known as Aidonia, made himself synonymous with genre from a very young age.
Born in 1981, Lawrence grew up within a stable family environment whilst living with his mother, a teacher and father who was formerly a soldier. The Red Hills Road native was invested in music from an early age and while attending Meadowbrook High School, Lawrence gained an appreciation for the Dancehall genre. After watching a tape of the memorable clash between prominent Dancehall entertainers, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer at STING '93, Lawrence would re-enact the clash for his family and friends to enjoy. It was at this point when Lawrence would seriously pursue his dream of becoming a deejay.

Lawrence began to write his own lyrics and soon formed his own group entitled JAG1 (Jah A Guide). The group was referred to by onlookers as J.O.P (Jag One Productions) while the group performed at several fetes and school events. However, Lawrence was unfortunately expelled from Meadowbrook in 6th form after allegedly keeping bad company. Nevertheless, this did not deter Lawrence's dream of becoming a deejay.

After being expelled, Lawrence migrated to the United States with his father and worked for a short time at FedEx. During his stay in the U.S, Aidonia briefly made waves on the Dancehall scene in New York but would return to Jamaica at the encouragement of friends in order to build his career.

Mr Vegas Celelbrates His Birthday In Oakland With A Smashing Party

mr_vegas_birthday_party.jpgInternational superstar Mr. Vegas celebrated his birthday in fine style with a rollicking wild party at Oakland's New Karibbean City last week. The occasion was Spicey Promotions' 10th anniversary party and boy was it crazy!

The New Karibbean City is an incredible venue, warehouse-like, with high ceilings, and tall windows. Huge paintings of Bob Marley adorn the walls which are dotted with Jamaican flags and an imposing Lion of Judah symbol. The venue was packed and inside was suffocatingly hot when Mr. Vegas hit the stage at 1:30 a.m and the temperate spiked again. He started off with the aggressively infectious "She's a Hoe" and people shouted out the lyrics as they sang along word for word, while other patrons ‘daggered’ suggestively.

Vybz Kartel aka the Worl' Boss to be interrogated today

Marc Parc Writer

Internationally renowned Dancehall superstar, Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer will be the subjects of a series of interrogations this week in regarding two murder cases.

Kartel was arrested at a New Kingston hotel on Thursday night hours after shooting an episode for his Teacha's Pet reality series. Following an operation carried out by the Flying Squad, they took Kartel into custody as well as a woman and two other men after discovering a small quantity of marijuana at the hotel. Later charged with possession of Ganja, "Di Teacha," was carried around by police across several residences in Kingston and St. Catherine that he's believed to either own or frequent. Reportedly, a badly burnt body was discovered at a premises located in Havendale, St. Andrew weeks previously while the artiste is also being investigated for a triple murder that took place in St.Catherine; leading to Kartel being held in custody this past weekend.

Kartel's questioning was postponed at the request of Kartel's legal team; a team comprising of veteran lawyers, Tom Tavares Finson, Christian Tavares Finson and Michael Deans. According to Assistant Police Commissioner Ealan Powell, Kartel's attorneys failed to show up for a meeting on Saturday, hence, prompting investigators to reschedule for this week.

Meanwhile, more information about the nature of the investigation is expected to be released via a press conference this week. Furthermore, one of the main sponsors of Kartel's Teacha's Pet reality show, LIME is currently monitoring his case. The telecommunications outlet held a meeting on Friday discussing the future prospects of Teacha's Pet and deciding what plan of action they would take should bigger charges be issued against the show's focal point.

Tupac Sex Tape Surfaces

tupac_shower_bath_rapper_late.jpgA five-minute sex tape showing Tupac receiving oral sex while rapping and dancing has surfaced ... and TMZ has seen it.

The tape, shot in 1991, begins with a bunch of groupies in a living room during a house party. Tupac walks into the room with his pants down to his ankles, his shirt off ... sporting several chains.

Tupac -- whose head is shaved -- pulls one of the women toward him, and she begins performing oral sex. As she does her thing, an unreleased song of Tupac's is playing in the background, as Tupac is singing along and dancing, wiggling his hips.

And it gets even better. As the woman services Tupac, who is holding a cocktail in one hand and a blunt in another, Money B from Digital Underground walks over to him. Tupac puts his cocktail arm around Money B, continues singing and dancing ... and the woman never stops.

As the tape ends it appears he's ready to begin sexual intercourse. It's unclear if there's another tape.

We've learned the person in possession of the tape is making plans to release it.

One thing's for sure ... Tupac was a multi-tasker.

The awards show, which taped at the Atlanta Civic Center on Saturday, is set to air on Tuesday, October 11; comedian Mike Epps hosted with assistance from Da Brat. While T.I. arguably provided the show's grandest moment, Rick Ross and his Maybach Music crew, Lupe Fiasco, Big Sean, Heavy D, DMX and Wiz Khalifa all electrified the crowd with hyped-up performances throughout the night.

Marc Parc Writer

Vybz Kartel's reality show, Teacha's Pet could soon be losing one of its major sponsors following the arrest of its centerpiece on Thursday night.

vybz_kartel_book_voice_of_the_ghetto.jpgThe surprise arrest of controversial Dancehall artiste, Adidja "Vybz Kartel" Palmer could be the first of many within the Jamaican music industry as police claim more artistes are under investigation for various murders.

Kartel was arrested at his New Kingston hotel room on Thursday night after law enforcement officials discovered a small quantity of marijuana there. On Friday, police investigators raided two St. Andrew based properties allegedly owned by "Di Teacha," as well as one in St. Catherine; Reportedly, Kartel is being investigated regarding the discovery of a badly burnt body found at one of his residences in Havendale, St. Andrew and the searches were part of a major case that the "Worl' Boss" could be involved in.

However, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner, Ealan Powell has indicated that Kartel's arrest could be part of a wide investigation within the local music industry. "We have an interest in at least 10 other members of the entertainment industry, some of whom have been implicated in a number of murders and shootings," Powell said.
