"A Wha Some Boy a Pree We Fah" - Zumjay

By Kon-Vick Writer

Since Michael Rutherford gave Zumjay his studio cameo at Dynamic Studio in the early 90s, he has not looked back. This is evident in his latest effort Pree We Fah on the Crusha Rhythm produced by Maxie (Mr. X) Kerr.

There is unrelenting evidence that Zumjay has matured on the track Pree We Fah. His unique delivery and hard-hitting lyrics were testimony of this maturity. The lyrical content was well organized and the deejay’s voice synchronizes well with the top class produced rhythm.

Although Zumjay got a bit on the violent side, it was a sideline addition as the song focused primarily on independence. The line “spend we own money nah drink nuh free liquor…” talks of this independence and although someone was attacked in the line “move from out of mi face before mi use mi Hennessey wet yuh up…”, it still talked about independence when one look at the beverage being imbibed.

The Waterhouse-reared deejay and former Kingston College and Hydel High School student also showed loyalty to several garrisons while simultaneously bigging up the dancers.

The song is not one aimed at a very young audience, but is a track that should do well in the dancehall and put Zumjay right back in the local limelight. Pree We Fah eclipses his earlier songs in terms of the way Zumjay deejayed on the track. There was an evident change in the pace of his delivery, however this element of surprise worked well on the ear and instigated interest.

Born Rohan Alphonso Stephens, Zumjay surfaced to the forefront of the dancehall arena in the year 2000, when he recorded 'Courtney', a tribute to international cricketer Courtney Walsh as he closed in on the individual record for highest wicket-taker in Test history. Since then his career has blossomed handsomely especially with the Stephen 'Lenky' Marsden produced Diwali rhythm. Zumjay scored another major hit on the Diwali with the ultra-popular, Zumjay News.

Although he is rarely seen on the local scene, Zumjay still enjoys a lot of limelight as he frequently appears on the international scene.

Out of a possible 5 star rating, with 5 being the highest, gives this effort a 4.25 star rating. Big tune artiste!!!

if zumjay reach such a level of maturity, why is he attacking busy signal on his version of wine po di edge? it goes to show that he can't be original and find a niche for himself.

Zumjay is a very mature artist. He first did the song pon di edge and it even mash up asylum. Next thing we hear seh Busy have a song named wine pon di edge but Busy's song got more promotion. Zumjay been consistently delivering all these years and nothing's gonna hold him down.
