Extra, Extra - Britney Spears & Cherine Anderson Taking Over

What a way to start 2008.

cherine_anderson_britneyspears_photos.jpgCherine Anderson has had the honor and pleasure of collaborating with many extremely talented artists at this early stage in her career: Wyclef Jean, Chuck Fenda, Paul McCartney, Bootsy Collins and Ky-mani Marley; to name a few. Next name to be added to this distinguished list: Britney Spears?

The Dancehall-Soul songstress has started off her year collaborating with Sly & Robbie and pop princess Britney Spears on the remix to Spears' latest single entitled "Piece of Me", newly released on iTunes (as one of six remixes). The tune, featuring a fresh, feisty voiced Cherine Anderson, is 'pure-fyah', and definitely a club banger. For those familiar with Anderson's prior work, her showing on the "Piece of Me" remix exhibits her vast versatility as an artist - from soulful crooning in her latest single "You & Me Against the World", to switching seamlessly to an aggressive DJ style in "Piece of Me". All the while, Cherine holds her own alongside the Grammy Award winning crew. Cherine Anderson and Britney Spears; an unlikely collaboration - true. But when the result sounds this impressive, why question the likelihood?

Queen Ifrica's 'Daddy Don't Touch Me There' - First #1by a female for 2008

The Queen strike again and there is a new top song. Queen Ifrica's "Daddy Don't Touch Me There" rose to the # 1 Position on the Hype TV Top 20 Singles Chart. She is the first female to top the chart for 2008. The song replaced Demarco's "Fallen Soldiers" which fell to the # 3 Position after four weeks at the top.

Erup's "Click My Finger" as retained the 'Shot to Watch' title again this week. It moved two spot up to the # 2 Position. Let's see if Queen Ifrica can hold back this song from the top spot.

'The Greatest Gainer' this week is still Sean Paul's "Pick It Up & Drop It" The song moved three spot up from the # 7 position to assume # 4 Position. It seems as if Erup might not even get a chance to shine if Sean Paul continues to steal the greatest gainer titles.

Having two 'New Entries' seems to be the norm for 2008 with the chart. There are two New Entries again this week. The first new entry at the # 18 Position is Courtney Melody's "Just likeThe Rain". The other new entry is RDX's "Everybody Dance", this song makes its debut at the # 20 Position.

Demarco's Fallen Soldiers holding down 1# spot on Hype TV Top 20 Singles Chart

demarco_fallensoldiers_jamaicanpictures.jpgDemarco's "Fallen Soldiers" ruled the month of January as it is in the # 1 position for fourth consecutive weeks. This is quite an accomplishment and a great start for him for the New Year. Well done Mr. Demarco!!

Queen Ifrica's "Daddy Don't Touch Me There" remains in # 2 Position. Is this song really destined for the top and will Demarco ever give it the opportunity to shine at the top.

Erup is setting all the records to be beaten on the chart, his "Click My Finger" rose to the # 4 Position after only five weeks on the chart. Mr. Erup certainly deserves an award for such feat, but the top post is the only spot that counts so let's see if he can also crab that post at a record pace. Therefore the song is not surprisingly this week 'Shot to Watch'

'The Greatest Gainer' is Sean Paul's "Pick It Up & Drop It" as the song moved four spots up from the # 11 position to the # 7 Position. He seems to be ready again to heat up the international market with his new hit.

The artistes seems to be working very hard this year as there are again two 'New Entries' this week on the chart. The first new entry at the # 19 Position is "Gussie Clark" by Deva Brat. The other new entry is Prestige's "I'm Bless", this song makes its debut at the # 20 Position. These New Artistes seems to be doing exceptionally well.

If all the natives on the Tiny Island of Antigua & Barbuda were present on Thursday January 10, 2008 at Jazziz Bristro at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Florida to see their native son Causion performed they would have been beaming with pride.

The night represents the launch of Causion’s Third Album entitled “Stella’s Kids”, the setting was intimate, and the crowd was a nice compliment of Media and VIP’s mingled with screaming fans. Among the elites were Antigua’s Counsel General Ian Sweeny who spoke briefly, thanking the crowd for their support of Causion and expressed how proud Antigua as a country were of Causion.

The show started off with the group Shaze an upcoming, talented gospel trio setting the pace for the evening. The soulful sisters had the crowd bouncing to their hit song “Every Nation” taken from their recently released album “Praise Him”.

TIMMI_BURRELL_negril.jpgFor Negril based singer Timmi Burrell, music is a very serious thing. The Spanish Town Native does not believe in making music that does not have the ability to impact positively on the life of others. He does not believe in doing music for a quick hype and a bag of forwards at stage shows. He says "I have a message to deliver and it has to be done in a certain kind of way. No hurry come up thing, no hype thing for me, I don't want to make it fast and then disappear quickly". That's why he spends a lot of time working on his craft in and out of the studio, with his management and production team at Torie/Shae's Production.

Every aspect of Timmi's career is carefully guided by Torie/Shae's Production boss Ralston Barrett, a man who has dedicated almost all of his life to unearthing and developing talent in Western Jamaica. Speaking with about his own career as an artist as well as his debut solo album "Soul Pirate" Alborosie is finally in town, Kingston Town to be specific.
Your Single, Kingston Town was a huge hit, what influenced that single and who produced the track?

"Well I produced the track, I'm a musician and an engineer - I wanted to actually describe Kingston from a different point of view, not the everyday killing and ting so I used a-long-time old school punch line and give it a nice vintage flow. It was simple but effective and Kingston Town ended up being the biggest tune in Europe for 2007".

Queen Ifrica is still hedging for the top with "Daddy Don't Touch Me There" . The song remains 'The Shot to Watch' and it also moved a spot up to the # 2 Position. Is this song going to be her fist top hit for 2008, is question on everyone's mind. Whatever the case might be Queen Ifrica is off to a great start.

Erup continues to click his way to the top at a very fast pace, as the song is 'The Greatest Gainer' again this week. It moved five spots up to assume the # 7 Position. He is obviously racing to the top.

"This Year Mi Affi Be Di Winner" - Konshens

Check out Konshens tonight(January 18) on RE TV - ‘Di Review’ one of Jamaica’s leading local entertainment networks.

By: Icey Jace Writer

konshens_naturalbridge_jamaica_photos6.jpgOn Monday you heard what the top Disc Jocks in Jamaica had to say about him and on Wednesday you got a sneak peek of his promotional photo shoot, now it’s time to formally introduce to you the next big superstar in Dancehall. proudly presents Konshens - Break Out Artiste For The Month of January

Born Garfield Delano Spence - Konshens never actually planned a career in music, apart from enjoying the vibe it gave him growing up. He was just like the average Jamaican youngster, "at that time it was just ball game, school and girls, I never saw music as a profession" he vividly recalls (laughs).

A resident of Sherlock a garrison community located in the Duhaney Park area of Kingston, Konshens began showing a commitment in music pretty late, 2005 to be specific. Back then the now DJ was just another curious stranger who use to hang out with his older brother Delus (Sojah) at Sugar Minott's Black Roots Recording Studio, but their vision for music changed when they linked up with the musical family Cash Flow. "That's where I got my break I recorded my first song there on the Guilty Riddim and it did well, it went number 1 in Japan and how we found out was we just search for the song on the internet and read up some info and there it was number 1 in Japan so we did a one month tour over there. The following year 2006 we (Sojah & I) released an album (Sons of Jah) and get another Japan tour, this time for 2 weeks".

Realizing he was on to something good Konshens began making steps in the right direction. Not a producer of beats himself he hooked up with the father and son team of Cash Flow to compose tracks as he penned lyrics to launch his own solo career, a move he says was all apart of the grand plan. "When we came back from tour we sat down and said that we wanted to attack it from a local stand point so me and Delus (Sojah) say we were gonna try solo careers and see what happened.

Brain surgery helps woman listen to Sean Paul music again

The Associated Press

seanpaul_dancehall_jamaica.jpgGARDEN CITY, New York: Brain surgeons have cured a rare condition in a Canadian woman who went into epileptic fits whenever she heard music by her favorite performer, hip-hop and reggae star Sean Paul.

Stacey Gayle recently underwent brain surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center to cure the rare condition known as musicogenic epilepsy.

Gayle, a 25-year-old customer service employee at a bank in Alberta, Canada, was suffering as many as 10 grand mal seizures a day, despite being treated with medications designed to control them. The condition became so bad she eventually had to quit her job and leave the church choir where she sang.

Eighteen months ago, she began to suspect that music was triggering some of her seizures. She recalled being at a barbecue and collapsing when the Jamaican rapper Sean Paul's music started playing, and then remembered having a previous seizure when she heard his music.

Spice creating havoc on the scene

spice_deejay_dancehallartiste_sting.jpgThere is no taming this lady diva of dancehall. With her biting lyrics and lethal performance Spice is holding her own on a stage that is dominated by her male counterparts.

In December she enjoyed a busy season as she passed like a tornado through the events leaving total devastation in her wake. Events such as Riding West, Sting, Island Explosion and Tivoli Jamboree saw her in all her element as she had the crowd in frenzy as she “talk up did tings dem!”

The New Year, January 1 saw the trend continuing at Unity Splash where she took total control of the crowd and showing exactly why a lot of female DJs have to think twice about tackling her on stage!

Negotiations are now in the works for her to go on a European tour with Baby Cham and Pinchers and she is ready!

Currently Spice has some songs that are hitting up the scene right now and these include ‘Whoa’ on the Old Axe riddim, for Truck Back label, ‘No Gal’, ‘Dun Out’ on the Dem Gal Smitten for Ward 21, ‘Goody Good-Ho for Natural Bridge and ‘Up Inna De Light’ on the Gear Box riddim and this one debut at #19 on the Hype TV top 20 singles chart. Also look out for the premiere of Dem Gal Smitten medley video with her hot song ‘Dun Out” feature in it.

hotta_ball_selectors.jpg‘Hot It Up Movements’ spear headed by Hotta Ball played a magnificent selection of music last night at Uptown Mondays’ which had the men firing blanks and the ladies ‘bruking’ out on the dance floor.

Hot It Up Movements musical selections were well put together ranging from as far as 90’s Hop Hip, R&B that rolled over into some of Dancehall’s current hit singles and even took the chance of squeezing off a few new tunes from various artistes such as Sizzla, Monster Shock Empire, Voicemail, Anthony B and Jamaica’s newest sensation Konshens.

Konshens - Break Out Artiste For The Month of January

By: Icey Jace

konshens_naturalbridge_dancehallartiste.jpgLast year a host of fresh talents burst onto the dancehall scene with a hunger to be regarded as the best of the best by their peers. Among some of the top new comers that earned their stripes were Bugle with his What I'm Gonna Do symphony, Serani on the street anthem Doh, Demarco who paid tribute to all the Fallen Soldiers, Timber-lee with her Ward 21 assisted Bubble Like Soup and Dancehall's self proclaimed Gangster Ras - Munga Honorable with his own smash single Bad From Mi Born.

For 2008 will be pledging its support to new and upcoming artists by introducing a Break Out Artist of the Month feature that will be geared towards the introduction, promotion and development of young artists who are buzzing in the streets. Our team of Public & Media Relations Experts will be going all out in ensuring all 12 featured artists get maximum exposure during the stipulated 28 days timeline.

Starting things off for the month of January proudly present Natural Bridge Recording artiste Konshens who is now burning up the airwaves of local radio stations with the hit single Winner.

Before we formally introduce the DJ who proclaims "this year mi haffi be the winner, cause mi nah go mi yard without my youth dem dinner" "I'm in a money making mood, can’t touch the ends without mi dogs dem food". Lets get some feedback of what some of Jamaica,s top disc jocks think of both Konshens the artist and his new year single Winner.

Nikki Z - ZIP 103 FM
"Konshens is a great artist, great sound, strong lyrics and he has an image. I'm very impress with his new single Winner and trust me I see big things for this guy, he's my project for 2008, I’ll be giving him my full support I mean it".

Collin Hinds - FAME FM
"Well the first time I heard Konshens was on the Sea-breeze Riddim with the song Jah Protect I and from then I thought he had a place in the industry. Konshens brings something new to the table. He has an interesting sound and a pretty decent voice so with the right guidance and if he has the determination he should do really well. As for his single 'Winner' I think the timing of the song is great, a lot of artists have good songs but they never go anywhere because the timing wasn't right but in this case the timing perfect. What he will need now is promotional support and the right people playing his tracks".

"Well Konshens I don’t know him personally but I met him the other day and before I met him I always use to hear the name in the streets, I’m the type of person that look out for good talent and I heard a song he have called "I've Created a Monster". Now I know your reviewing the song 'Winner' but the writing skills on 'Monster' is different, not everybody think like that so believe me I’m into his style. So look out for it "I've Created A Monster", mi ago beat it like dem pay mi to play it".

Flamze - RJR 94 FM "Catch a Fyah"
"I see Konshens as a refreshing change in dancehall, he's extremely talented and more so I'm impressed in his approach to his lyrics, the song 'Winner' is nothing short of a hit and like I said we need a change. Konshens is definitely one for the future".

DJ Smurf - IRIE FM
"I would say Konshens as an artists sounds solid, I mean he definitely has a lot of potential and as for his track Winner I think it’s a great song very inspiring, it's one of those song that will motivate people to work towards their goals for this year and that’s what we need right now".

Elektra - ZIP 103 FM
"Konshens is very creative and versatile young artist that doesn't give you the same thing over and over again, he's flexible and that’s a great thing because you can put him on a dance track and he sounds good, put him on a reggae track he sounds good or even dancehall so I’m always excited when I hear his music. I remember when I first heard 'Winner' in about November and every time I played the song it felt so good - he gives me a vibe, I just love the song".

Log on to on Wednesday to get the full story behind Dancehall's latest hit maker Konshens and join us again on Friday when we will premier his Promotional Photo Catalog.

Reports are that during the course of the day former manager of Vybz Kartel and well known producer Patrick "Roach" Samuels visited the radio station and left verbal threats for ZJ Liquid who was not in office at the time.

It is said that Roach cursed expletives and said he was going to make an example of Liquid who he accused of not playing his songs.

"It's like I was at home and I got a call from the radio station and they were asking if me and Roach had any disagreements, so I said no. The last time I spoke with Roach was about a song he gave me that he did as a DJ, he said he was going to start his career and he wanted some help. shaggy_intoxication_dancehallpop.jpgDancehall superstar, Shaggy, recently made a return to music with the release of his latest album, Intoxication, via Big Yard/VP Records.

With over 20 million records sold worldwide, Shaggy hopes he can reclaim his mainstream success with a new album full of club bangers and hardcore dancehall tracks.

According to the dancehall performer, he had no outside interference during the recording process and it shows with the final product.

Patriot Giving It All

jahpatriot_photos.jpgDJ and songwriter, Patriot, was born Denver Williams on March 24, 1968, in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica. He attended St. Anns Bay Primary School, where his love for songwriting and DJing began. When Patriot was 16, he migrated to the United States, where he and his family settled in Brooklyn, NY. While attending Brooklyn High School, he ran track and field. By age seventeen, Patriot was running the 100 meters in 10 seconds. Soon he was training for the Olympics, and showcasing his great athletic talent to the many college scouts and coaches who came to see him. Then, during what should have been a truly joyous and exciting time, the unthinkable happened: Patriot lost his sight.

Here he was a teenager dealing simultaneously with the permanent loss of his sight and new fatherhood, in a land that was not his native home. Drawing from the same spirit that made him an exceptional athlete, Patriot fought off self-pity and found strength and comfort in his Rastafarian faith. He also drew upon the courage and wisdom of Ethiopian Emperor, Haile Selassie I. Most importantly, the birth of his son Jahmal gave him a deep sense of purpose and many new challenges. From making Jahmals porridge, to building him snowmen in the park, to teaching him to ride his bicycle, Patriot found his greatest joy in caring for his son.

Was Aidonia framed? - At no time was he involved in any violent activities

aidonia_dancehall_sting.jpgLate last night was given a copy of the official press release by Aidonia’s Lawyers and Management Team declaring the deejay’s innocence.

Mrs. Neita - Robertson >> Official Statement

Further to what transpired and subsequently has been published by Press Agencies both print and web based myself and Aidonia's family would like to publicly emphasize the innocence of Mr. Lawrence.

At no point in time was he even involved in any violent activities, he is a very prominent entertainer who has the highest regard for the law.

It's unfortunate the way he has been treated since he was detained on January 5th after he in good faith took the initiative to visit the Grants Pen Police Station after receiving word that a shooting had occur in his community.

I am both confident and comfortable that his account of what transpired on Saturday is accurate and will exonerate his alleged involvement in the shooting incident.

Contrary to previous reports printed in yesterday’s copy of the Star, Aidonia was actually the victim of an extortion plot which involved several men who has been targeting him for some time now and it was upon his refusal to comply with their demands that men came into the community in search of him.

Jamaican Beauty Nerissa Irving - A Natural Queen Model Of The Week

nerris_irvin_modelphotos.jpgI'm all about my dreams, family, my health, friends, and my wealth. If anyone tries to mess with those things, there's going to be a problem. LOL. But I'm serious. I've been trying to do this whole modeling acting thing since I was a little girl, but I put it on pause to finish school. But now is my turn to shine. This is a very hard and competitive industry. If your weak you won't make it. I'ts not all about looks in this industry. You need the whole package to get by.(brains, talent, 75% beauty, and good communication skills). I am currently in acting school now.

My main goal is to live life to my best ability. just to be happy, and feel happy about what I become in the future..

I let god take my life in his hands.. Whatever he has in store for me, that's what I will become. I don't set goals, because you live your life trying to fulfill those goals and by doing that you let so many other opportunities pass you by.

Don't be afraid to change coarse. do it passionately and you'll find your way.And yes, I'm the girl in the Bobby Valentino video.(Its good to have knowledge, but its better to pass it on)

Cops & Soldiers swoop down on Popular dance session Prendies On The Beach

"Even out a di water mi see police a come from".

By Kon-Vick Writer

soldiers-beach.jpgPopular dancehall session Prendies On The Beach last night was certainly not the place to be as patrons were search in side out by the Jamaican Defense Force and the Police Force.

According to one patron who sent an email early this morning claims that she was shocked with what took place on the beach last night.

“Mi nuh love what gwaan because mi guh fi enjoy mi self and then planned to left early so mi could wake up in time to go work - but by the time mi fi do that, mi nuh know where so much soldiers and police come from. Helicopter, Tanker, even out a di water mi see police a come from.

Even though some patrons might be upset that their fun came to an abrupt end, others are praising the police and soldiers for their new way of fighting crime.

Between late 2007 and January 2008 more than four sessions have been raided by soldiers and cops in search of illegal guns and wanted men. Some of the events that have been raided so far are Mavado’s Birthday Bash, Asylum Night Club, Quad Night Club, a session held in Clarendon to name a few.

Did Beenie Man's brother 'Blue' willfully hit Barbee in the eye?

The street is filled with rumors that Beenie Man’s brother ‘Blue’ hit Barbee in the face last night at Jagga B’s dance at La Roose in Portmore (Jamaica).

When roving reporter Kon-Vick heard of the incident, he decided to carry out his own investigation before running with the story. He tried repeatedly to get in touch with both Beenie Man and Barbee but was not successful. His last hope of attaining the truth about what took place last night (January 5) was to call her publicist Ray Alexander.

It’s true that Blue and Barbee had a minor disagreement and he accidentally hit her in the eye while gesticulating, but I don’t know what caused the friction. Some people are saying it’s because Beenie Man had been flirting around with other girls at the party, but that could have never been the reason for what took place because those girls were Barbee’s friends. Afterwards Blue went and apologies to Barbee for letting his finger catching her in the eye.

Garrison Hawk Brings His Game

Garrison_Hawk.jpgThis is one of Garrison Hawk's best videos, which revolved around the drug game, and the roles of the traffickers and the police in it. The videos kicks off with Garrison Hawk, dressed in a dapper suit, and standing in a square of light in grungy building smoking a cigar, then segues to a black and white scene with him seated on a stool in front of a rickety building, while a few thugs mug for the camera. Other scenes show him deejaying in front of a pier perhaps, Miami, FL. and leaning against a container in what could be a storage area of a wharf/ scenes with men packing garbage bags on waiting boat while Garrison Hawk insists:

"We believe in gangsta for life
Wish I could sleep through these nights
Many jeepers and creepers and blood-seekers in the nights…"

The storyline of the video appears to be a sting operation being conducted by the ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco& Firearms and Explosives) which is trying to apprehend Garrison Hawk. However, he seems to always be one step ahead of them as they raid building, question possible suspects (one of whom is Mastadon from RETV) before he is finally apprehended on the pier.

The video has cinematic feel to it as jay will delivers the goods yet again.

Busy Signal and Sean Paul "Get Serious"

sean_paul_and_busysignal.jpgFrom Florida to Kingston, radio airwaves are rocking with the remix for the powerful dancehall hip hop hybrid track, Serious.

Delivering the hook is the multi-platinum, Grammy award winning reggae toaster, Sean Paul. On Serious, Sean Paul makes a dramatic departure from his usual up beat topics to highlight the grave dangers of violence. "Yow, when I heard the beat, the hook came instantly," Sean Paul explained.

Anxious to share the spotlight, Sean Paul called on hot dancehall deejay, Busy Signal. "I was at home when Sean called me and played the beat. We met up at the studio that same afternoon to lay the track," elaborated Busy Signal. In Busy's verse, he endorses Sean's chorus to emphasize the point that "gun t'ing a nuh joke t'ing".

Beyonce Wins Baby Boy Copyright Appeal

beyonce-sexy-look-seanpaul.jpgBeyonce has won an appeal to uphold a court decision to dismiss a copyright infringement lawsuit, relating to her 2003 chart-topping and Grammy award-winning song, 'Baby Boy'.

According to a statement released on January 2, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit "upheld the 2006 trial court decision dismissing a copyright infringement lawsuit brought against Beyonce".

Jennifer Armour alleged in the lawsuit that her former manager had submitted demo recordings of a song to Matthew Knowles, Beyonce's father and President of Music World Entertainment, and to representatives of Beyonce's record label Columbia Records in late February or early March 2003.

She discovered in litigation, however, that the writing and recording of 'Baby Boy' was substantially complete before Armour claimed to have submitted her demo recording.

The trial court dismissed the case due to the fact that "no reasonable person could conclude that the two songs sounded substantially similar to one another, and the appellate court upheld the dismissal of the case on the grounds that 'Baby Boy' was in existence before Armour allegedly submitted her demos.

Beyonce is relieved that the case was resolved, saying, "It's unfortunate that we had to endure this long legal process, but I am hopeful this decision will allow all of us that were involved to finally move on."

jahcure-sizzlabox-dancehall.jpgIt was reported that Sizzla and Jah Cure had a minor misunderstanding back stage at Cocoa Tea's Dancehall Jam Jam that was held on December 31st.
Since that incident took place it is now the talk of the town - some wanting to know if Sizzla literally boxed Jah Cure while others are saying it’s close to being so. tried extremely hard to get in touch with both parties but was not successful in doing so. However, after a few hours later we received a press release from Jah Cure’s publicist stating is love for Sizzla.

Here is a copy of the statement below

"2007 was a challenging year for me; however, throughout the year I was able to stay focused on the music while maintaining a positive attitude. I am here to uplift the people as I myself was once down. I want to use my music to comfort the hurt and bring joy to the sad.

"Many may have heard of a recent incident at Cocoa Tea's Dancehall Jam Jam, in light of this, I want to state that I am a positive person whose only aim is to uplift people and live in a positive way. I give thanks to those who have helped me throughout my career to reach the level that I am now. I want to thank Sizzla Kalongi as he was one of the first to believe in my music.
