The Turks and Caicos Music Festival - More Than Music

india-arie_sexybeyoncerihanna.jpgSet in the glistening waters of the Caribbean Sea, the Turks and Caicos Islands is a destination of cultural and entertainment activities. One of these many activities is the fourth annual Music and Cultural Festival. The Turks and Caicos Music Festival offers each visitor a chance to experience a star filled event that is sure to delight.

Set to take place on Monday, July 30 to Monday, August 6 at Turtle Cove Marina on Providenciales, the annual event hosted by the Turks and Caicos Tourist Board and was first introduced in 2003. Since then the festival has grown to attract a following of over 8,000 people, and with good reason, as the festival offers so much more than just music.

Other than a line up that includes the likes of five-time Grammy winner John Legend, American soul singer Micheal Bolton, song stresses India.Arie and Alicia Keys, country singer Kenny Rogers and R&B American soul singer Freddie Jackson- there are countless other cultural, outdoor and fun activities to discover while at the festival.

Though there is music under the stars at night, in the days one can explore the vast coral reefs, which cover 193 square miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The Turks and Caicos Islands has the third largest coral reef system and stand among the best tropical beaches in the world, making it a premier beach, diving and snorkelling destination. There is also the Middle Caicos Sailing Association where one can cruise on model sailboats or watch the sailboat races that you might get the chance to see.

If the sea life isn’t the one for you, there is a mixture of cultural activities to attend to. The Turks and Caicos Islands have a unique cultural mix that dates back from their history of having been colonised by the British, French and Spanish.

The Tuca Cultural Group performs folk dances in the National Costume since 2001. Their folkloric show displays the folk music, songs and dances of the islands. Junkanoo performances are also known to happen, where masqueraders dance to the rhythm of the goatskin drums and other handmade percussion instruments.

The costumes of the Turks and Caicos have been known to be elaborate: depicting different themes and characters. On Saturday, August 4 patrons can come out in the day to the Cultural Day and Annual Boat Regatta at Blue Hill.

On the other side of things are the Little Miss Turks and Caicos Beauty Pageant on Tuesday, July 31 and the Miss Turks and Caicos Beauty Pageant on Friday, August 3. This is where contestants from all the islands compete for the crown and the chance to attend the Miss Universe pageant. On Monday, August 6 is a Beach Bash at the Kids Park on Lower Bight Road and comedians Beth Payne and Paleface give a bellyful of laughs in between the sweet musical lyrics on Sunday, August 5.

Come and experience more than music at the Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival- a cultural extravaganza.
