Fist fight at BET awards - between TI and Ludacris' camp

T.Iandludacris_betfight_akon.jpgFight at BET Awards - "Why can’t we just get along?" Rodney King said a decade or so ago. I asked myself that same question after hearing at the melee that took place at Warner Music Executive Kevin Liles party. According to Celebrity journalist Jawn Murray’s report on Black Voices the fight started when a person from TI’s camp got into it with Chaka Zulu who works with Ludacris.

"First it was two guys, then it was six guys, then it was 10 guys," the Widdicombe source noted, describing how the fight escalated. "Plates were being smashed, the hotel lost a palm tree. The place got trashed ...T.I. was like a dog in a meathouse. Chaka's shirt got all torn up. As people spilled outside, [onlookers] were asking, 'Who got shot?'"

TI and Ludacris have been battling it out for some time now about which rapper is the King of the South. Both rappers hail from Atlanta. Ludacris has sold millions of records and made a successful crossover to acting. I will never forget his electrifying performances in "Hustle & Flow" and the multi award winner "Crash." TI’s breakout acting performance was "ATL" and he also has sold millions of records.

Beyonce was a clear favourite at the BET 2007 awards

beyonce_betawards_jayz.jpgLos Angeles, June. 28 (AP): The 2007 BET Awards made history even before the first trophy was presented as two "Dreamgirls'' took the stage.

Jennifer Holliday, one of Broadway's original "Dreamgirls,'' united with Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson to perform "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going'' _ each woman's signature song.

Show host Mo'Nique made a splashy entrance. Introduced by boxing announcer Michael Buffer, who shouted, "Are you ready to jiggle,'' she was joined by a bevy of plus-sized dancers in matching silver minidresses as they performed Beyonce's song "Deja Vu'' music-video style.

Beyonce was the night's first winner, capturing the video of the year award for "Irreplaceable.'' Wearing floor-length silver sequins, she thanked the video's director, Anthony Mandler, the song's author, Ne -Yo, and her parents.

Finally - Collie Buddz Career come around

Born in New Orleans, raised on the isle of Bermuda with intermittent stays in urban Toronto, Colin Harper is not an easy youth to pin down geographically. His musical alter ego Collie Buddz however, is one of the most firmly grounded voices you may ever encounter. Incorporating influences from hip-hop to soca, Collie’s music nevertheless has a rock-solid foundation in reggae - and its power to connect ghetto reality with the highest heights of human aspiration - that is a rarity even in Jamaica.

Born in 1981, at the dawn of the turbulent era signaled by the twin omens of Bob Marley’s passing and Ronald Reagan’s election, Collie was immersed in the sound system culture of Bermuda aka “The Rock” since the age of 6. “I used to come home from primary school and my brother would always be on the turntables, playin his new 45's an' I'd just be there vibesin'.” The evolution of dancehall and sound-clash culture into a movement of it’s own in the late 80s and early 90s set the backdrop for young Collie’s discovery of his own sonic identity, and the dancehall kings of that generation - Buju Banton, Bounty Killer and Beenie Man served as his primary influences. “Back when Beenie and Bounty used to war lyrically, seeing clashes wit’ Kilimanjaro an all the sound-man an’ everyt’ing…the whole music scene for me took on a new meaning. Clash thing an’ lyrical war became a part of my daily life from early out.”

R&B Reggae singer Sean Kinston - Beautiful Girl Lyrics

You're way too beautiful girl
Thats why it'll never work
You'll have me suicidal, suicidal
When you say its over
Damn, all these beautiful girls
They only want to do your dirt
They'll have you suicidal, suicidal
When they say its over

Verse 1
See it started at the park
used to chill after dark
Oh when you took my heart
Thats when we fell apart
cause we both thought, that love lasts forever (lasts forever)

They say we're too young, to get ourselves sprung
Ooh we didn't care we made it very clear
And they also said that we couldn't last together (last together)

See it's very define, you're one of a kind
But you MASH up my mind, you walk to get declined
Oh lord, my baby you're driving me crazy

R&B crooner J. Holiday takes you to 'Bed'

jholiday_R%26Bsexynudegirlssex_rihannalyrics.jpgThere are no mirrors or tricks here, no sleight of hand. When J. Holiday talks earnestly of “following my dreams” and “being in love with music,” it’s not a deliberately sympathetic portrayal by a partial writer. In fact, J.’s talent is matched - in rarity and intensity - only by his enthusiasm. His candor and vulnerability are refreshing, given the static, formulaic state of R&B. The question most are asking, though, is where did J. Holiday come from?

The answer is short, but runs deep: D.C. And while D.C.’s trademark sounds breed musicianship - “so many talented cats playing go-go or in church” - the city remains untapped.” And home, for J. Holiday, is where the art is. He was born into a musical family; mother Frances, one of 11 siblings, sang gospel with her 5 sisters, while his older sister supplied backing vocals for Crystal Waters. “Music was always around me and I just wanted to do it,” he recalls. But his first performances were as much coercion as inspiration: “When I was nine or ten years old, my older male cousins would always tell me to sing to girls passing by on the street. It was later that I realized they were exploiting me.” So by age ten, J. Holiday was finding his voice. Within a year, however, he was struggling to find his way. “My Pops died when I was eleven,” he states flatly. “He was sick and didn’t tell nobody. Not even my Mom. She never knew what was going on until he died.”

Rapper Eve - The sexy "blonde bomshelle"

rapper-eve-sexygirls.jpgEver since Eve broke on the scene in 1999 she’s had a knack for making stardom look easy. Grammy Award winner. Check. Starring in blockbuster films. Check. Achieving elite status as a fashion icon. Check. The “blonde bombshell” is a triple threat entertainer in the truest sense of the term. And one of the reasons you can’t take your eyes off of her is your ears. In an era when success in hip-hop is built on the portentous hype of saving the genre from imminent gloom and doom or testosterone driven beef, Eve remains a bankable star who grabs your attention with her consummate talent for crafting infectious hits. She’s proof positive that hip-hop doesn’t need to be saved or resurrected; it just needs a woman’s touch every now and then.

Hence, following a successful four-year takeover of the Hollywood and fashion scene, Eve is set to drop Here I Am, a more mature and adventurous album, one she calls her best effort to date. “This is the album I’ve always wanted to make,” she says. “In the past my albums have had a heavy male influence. Not this time. This one represents the woman I am today.” And there’s no doubt that the woman who brought us hits like “What Ya Want,” and “Let Me Blow Ya Mind,” is supremely confident that a mass variety of music lovers not just the hip-hop faithful will appreciate were she’s coming from this time around. “I didn’t just cater to a rap audience with this album,” she says. “I can go to the Pop Top 40 with this because it’s far more universal than anything I’ve done. You’re going to pay attention to me because it’s different.”

Da'Ville's first #1 in the UK

da%27villereggaesinger_jamaicangirls.jpgPresently sitting pretty at number one of The Choice FM Reggae Chart is ‘Always On My Mind’ by Da’ville featuring Sean Paul. The song was originally the title track of Da’ville’s second album. It got some decent airplay as a very good lovers rock track, but then came the remix featuring Mr Sean ‘hitmaker’ Paul, and the track was transformed from a ‘nice’ radio track into Da’ville’s first potential world smash. The remade video should be on the screens soon.

Da’ville may be a new name to most, but he’s been around for a hot minute as they say in Hip Hop. He first came to our attention as the lead singer of the group ARP (A Raw Perspective), they burst on to the scene with some gorgeous harmonies on a Special of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ for the immortal Stone Love sound system. They then had a stint as Brian & Tony Gold’s replacements in Kingston’s studios as the backing Harmony group of choice for many a producer.

Model Leigh Nguyen - sexy pre-med student

Myspace-Sexygirl of the week

Hi, I'm Leigh. I'm a pre-med student majoring in biology and neuroscience. However, I don’t like biology but I love neuroscience to death. That’s the crux of it all. I’ve taken too many biology classes to know that I don’t really care for it, but too many to turn back and not major in it. That’s how I screw myself. I like to have fun and laugh. I'm not short, but cute sized -- 5'1", weigh about 100lbs. give or take 5 lbs. (usually give though). I work out a lot -- and not like the aerobic video crap (no offense) -- I actually go to the gym and lift weights (because I'm hardcore - lol, j/k). I have short people’s disease in which I have to fight for everything. I’m the little person in the gym that tries to lift the big weights even when on the verge of a hernia. I love carbs! I eat rice like there’s no tomorrow. I have a current food addiction to FunYuns and spinach salad. I have yet to obtain bulging deltoids and biceps from eating a serving of spinache.

R&B Kat DeLuna ft Dancehall artiste Elephant Man - 'Whine Up'

Katdeluna_sexygirlspretty_rihannabeyonce.jpgKAT is the girl next door, no matter where you're from. To say shes a crossover artist is an understatement. Hip hop, R&B, Merengue, Pop, Spanish Jazz, ballads, and dance, she does it all; in English and Spanish. Want proof? R&B superstar R. Kelly called her a "prodigy" and the famous Salvadorian singer Alvaro Torres referred to her as Selena. At age 12 she was invited by the "Queen of Merengue" Milly Quezada, to sing with her on stage in front of thousands of people, and in April of 2004 she opened for J Records recording artist Cassidy as part of the all Latino girl group Coquette. All this, and KAT is only 19 years old.

Despite her success, things haven't always come easy for KAT. Shortly after Kat Emperatriz De Luna and her family moved from the Bronx to the Dominican Republic, where she was raised in poverty. KAT spent her time listening to Aretha Franklin and Billie Holiday records, which she imitated daily on her karaoke machine.

Friends and family recognized her talent at an early age, but it wasn't until moving back to the US that KAT realized her potential as a singer. With that goal in mind at age 14, KAT was accepted to the New Jersey School of the Performing Arts. As a freshman, she scoured the pages of The Village Voice for auditions. KAT auditioned endlessly for a chance to showcase her undeniable talent and finally received a call for an all girl group. KAT recognized that music was missing a Latin flavor. She sought to fill this void and formed the first Latina, Hip Hop/R&B group: Coquette. This does not only display KATs ability to tap into her culture background to differentiate herself in the industry, but also her business acumen.

Are you as Krispy as Kia Shine?

As the 2007 recipient of the Southern Entertainment Award for the Independent Artist of the Year, Memphis based recording artist Kia Shine has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is a force to be reckoned with. Kia Shine is a major figure on the South’s hip-hop underground scene. Now with his national debut on Universal Motown Records entitled Due Season Kia Shine is finally stepping up to take his rightful place in the hip-hop world.

Born in and raised in Memphis’ infamous Frazier neighborhood, Kia Shine witnessed first hand the devastating effect that drugs and poverty had on his community. “When I think about Frazier I think about New Jack City,” says Kia. “I remember when there wasn’t any such thing as crack and I remember when it first came into the neighborhood and how it was affected. It looked like you were either selling it or your folks were using it.” Thankfully Kia Shine was able to resist the temptation of the cheap high and the fast money that crack offered many ghetto youth. “I knew God had bigger plans for me. It just took me a little bit longer to realize that music was the thing that he wanted me to do.”

Reggae singer Etana - a cut above the rest

etanasexygirls_rihannabeyoncejayz.jpgFresh off the success of her enchanting yet gritty smash single "Wrong Address" the soulful Reggae songstress Etana is once more resonating from radio airwaves with another justified and unapologetic song entitled Roots As with her previous spring 2006 release which garnered praise and heavy rotation from both radio & party disc jocks, Etana seeks to captivate listeners with this work that highlights her strong vocal presence.

The direction of the new track is very clear and deliberate and speaks to a common emotion present in all of us. A firm meditation is the message of what can be described as a credible reggae sound credited to producer Steven Stanley with instrumental contributions from the great Sly & Robby.

There can be only one King of Dancehall - Beenie Man

Beeniemanking_d%27angelbaby_sexygirls_nakedguys.jpgBeenie Man recorded a slew of hit songs throughout the 90’s that captured the dancehall arena, dancehall fans were busy learning and practicing the new dance move “World Dance”, which was followed by more hit songs such as “Defend It” and “Dis Unu Fi Hear”, “Damsel Ship”, “Suzuki”, “Ole Dawg”, “Slam”, “Ketteh Drum” and many more. His performance in the music industry landed him the title DJ of the year in 1994, the same year that these singles were released. This was a significant year for Beenie Man; he also released his debut album which was titled “Blessed” which included a grip of hit songs.

By now, Beenie man had gone international; his songs were blazing the clubs and radio stations in England. The following year was even bigger and more successful for Beenie Man; he was doing major collaborations with Dennis Brown, Triston Palmer and Mad Cobra. In fact his biggest collaborations for that era were with Lady Saw for the song “Healing” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” that he did with Third World. mavadogangstaforlife_bountykiller_sexnakedgirls.jpgMavado, the turbulent genius taking dancehall by storm, brilliantly shines as the next star of his genre. Developing his artistry under the supervision of the dancehall icon Bounty Killer, Mavado crafted his sound into a class of its own. His bone chilling lyrics and raspy toned vocals resonate throughout the ghettos of Jamaica. In his tumultuous surroundings of Cassava Piece, Jamaica, Mavado tells a story of survival throughout his anticipated debut album, “Gangsta For Life: The Symphony of David Brooks,” released on July 10th, 2007 by VP Records.

This carefully orchestrated street narrative, features the hustling anthem “Dreamin,” one of his first famed singles of Jamaica produced by Daseca on the Riddim. The album continues with “Weh Dem A Do,” the ever popular hit that was at heavy rotation on mainstream radio, like New York’s Hot 97 and earned him major magazine covers, such as The Fader. His father’s death is spoken of on the one-drop tune “Sadness,” while “Pon The Gully Side” and “Born and Raised” document the singer’s rough upbringing even as they showcase the more angelic side of his gangster gospel.

R&B Sensation R. Kelly is truly a lengend

r.kellysexygirlsbeyonce_jayzrihanna.jpgAs the undisputed king of R&B, R. Kelly never seems to be far from the current soul scene. Be it collaborating with his homeboy Snoop (“That’s That”) or trading verses with Ciara (“Promise Remix”), this Chicago soul man has displayed a consistent brilliance throughout his fifteen-year career.

Since 2002, R. Kelly has blessed his fans with a new album every year, and 2007 will be no different. While the rest of the music world slept, R. Kelly has been inside his famed studio the Chocolate Factory making countless beats, laying down mackadelic vocals and creating wonderful music.

Much like his musical forefathers Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield and Donny Hathaway (the latter two also hailed from Chi-town), R. Kelly makes songs for ladies lounging in suites as well as homeboys b-balling in the streets. Aptly titled Double Up, Kelly’s new disc features a wide ranch of songs that pushes the sonic envelope while staying true to his game.

“Everything I did in the past, I’m about to double up on it,” says the windy city maestro. In other words, the listener will not be disappointed with the fierce production, superior lyricism and hyper collabos one has come to expect from a Kells project. Just in time for summer, with its whirlwind of backyard barbeques and beach parties, Double Up is filled with enough anthems to dominate the season.
